It's 29-30 days, depending on the moon siting.

not allow: From Sunrise to sunset= no food, water, sexual relations, smoking. one should be careful to speak less, not use hateful words, keep the gaze down and remain absorbed in Zikr (remembrance of Allah)

allowed: increase in prayers, meditation, charity, good works, studying Qur'an.

after sunset, food, water and sexual relations is allowed. smoking is bad for you so i won't say its allowed.

EDIT: No drinking at all allowed, not just water. By the way, Alcohol is never allowed in Islam. Also, the restriction on saliva is that one should not gather a large amount of saliva in the mouth as to take a drink of it. Normal saliva swallowing is fine.

Rmazan is a month where God makes muslims practice peity,
and exercise restraint on even the things that are halaal. all for Allah, so the muslims can actually control thier desires and supress thier wants, get to know how to live hungry and thirsty, so they feel how the poor suffer,
Its not just eats and drinks that are forbidden during the fast, a muslim has to obsorve a fast and control all his senses, and faculties, for example talk no crap, no lies, hear no music, control your sights, dont go gaping at girls, avoid seeing anything that would arouse any desires of the flesh or is obscene, Dont talk nonsense, be polite, no lies, do good to all, give plentiful in charity, pray hard and pray much.
In a nut shell.
You should eat before Dawn, Dawn to dusk no intake of any food or even a drop of water.

My dear friend first let me just correct your question, as you have said yourself it is the month of Ramadan meaning it has to be a month which is generally taken as 30 days give or take 1 or 2 days. Secondly, in reply to your query the Muslims are forbidden to consume any food or drink between sun rise to sun set time. That is all that is required as far as other things goes the Muslims are urged to carry out more practice of the Quran in letter-n-spirit to understand the meaning and the message of Quran in their life. Ironically the practice of this fundamental of Islam has now transformed into tradition and rituals only leaving the message aside people strife more to read the Quran then to understand and implement it.

Ramadhan is only last for 29 or 30 days.
Muslim can't eat and drink in whole day until sunset or maghrib prayer. Muslim must isolate from doing sinful activity, talk dirty or make lies etc.
Muslim also can't make sexual contact even a married couple just in a day in Ramadhan only but after sunset, can.
Your own saliva in the mouth can be swallowed even in huge amount and will not break Ramadhan fasting at all.
The time should be fulfill with reciting quran, go to mosque and doing amal ma'aruf nahi mungkar.

this is a month of 29-30 days . we are supposed to fast from sunrise to sunset daily (if health and age allows), avoid anything that is disliked in the religion, anger is one of the things. the piurpose is to learn discipline at the end of the month (for the rest of the year and subsequently life) by abstaining from bad things, peace

for Anjali: saliva is natural bodily liquid, similar to acid in our stomach and sweat, i don't see any point why it's not allowed to enter our stomach, and there's no mention in Qur'an or Hadist against gulping down our own saliva while fasting. Also I haven't found any succesful way to prevent myself doing so, as it is a natural physical reaction of the saliva glands when the mouth becomes too dry.
