Perfectly safe! Life's very normal here, except the sight of tanks and armed soldiers in SOME areas (and they are moving out slowly). Many locals and tourists alike are taking pictures beside the tanks and soldiers! A peaceful military coup, future of which we all cannot predict (and nothing to do with us :-) Enjoy Thailand!

Yes. The coup was carried out without a single shot fired and the military was instructed to smile and be very light hearted. The only effect on tourism was the self-caused panic upon hearing the news of a coup, which quickly subsided. More than 80% of the country's citizens supported the coup and they are still very much a democracy (the coup's leader has organized a democratic election to choose a new leader within the next weeks).

I wouldn't go there for a while anyway. It was a military takeover. By it's very nature it will be unstable for a bit. Since no one can predict what will happen in the future (a counter-coup, perhaps), you'd be better off waiting for a while. Go to Vietnam or Indonesia.
