Your question should read- Why is that SOME couples do not have sex for the first year after they have had a child?

Some women are afraid of conceiving. Some put so much time and energy into the child they do not have time for themselves. Some let the child sleep in the same bed with them. Some women feel they are not as attractive to their mate after having a child. Some men do not feel they get enough attention from their spouse to even think about sex.

The list could go on and on.

Personally, based on my experience as a father, the birth of a first child in a couple's life brings much excitement and great attention to their first born. The attention is much focused on their first baby that is likely learning more and making adjustments as new parents. Planning for another baby takes more time (maybe two or more years) along with the financial preparations to consider since most of the finances were spent on the first baby.

Well, I wouldn't say a YEAR... but six weeks is recommended by the doctor because your body needs to heal. My husband was counting down the days on the calendar! Other than that, newborn babies require your attention 24/7. For the first three months or so, you won't get any sleep. You have to wake up every couple hours to feed your baby. So that can be pretty draining. Women are also so involved and so in love with their new babies that sex is the last thing on our minds!

They don't generally stop having sex, sometimes they don't have sex nearly as often as they did before they had a child. Getting up during the night, adjusting to new schedules, and caring for the child are tiring, so sleep becomes more important. Plus many women just don't feel very sexy on very little sleep, smelling like spit-up, etc.

I don't know who you been talking too to come up with that information but that's not always true. I didn't, I went against my doctors orders and I had sex a week after giving birth.
Some people that wait is cause they are so tried from adjusting to taking care of a baby mainly if they have other kids.

I think the main reason is that you both are tired it is allot of work bringing a new life in the world and it takes some getting use to another little person there to interrupt the mood or by the time you get the baby to sleep you just want to go to sleep to.It is generally worse with the first baby.

We didn't wait a year--we waited only 6 weeks after the birth of our first son, and 8 weeks after the birth of our second son (c-section). Where did you hear that people have to wait a year?

It must be a COUPLE of people you know? Most couples don't wait THAT long. Some women go back for their six weeks check and learn that they are pregnant again, so this is not a true statement at all.

lack of time, exhaustion, baby waking up every two hours in the night. The child was given to perfect the time we have to exist, keeping us away from the pre-'time consuming' lifestyle. so yeah you don't have the time/opportunity.
