My fathers family has a history of alchoholics my dad was an alchoholic untill i was born. Everytime about 2-3 weeks after i drink i start craving it again im not sure if its mental or what but if i can make it 4 or 5 weeks without drinking the cravings go away untill i end up being stupid and going to a party again. do u think i would become and alchoholic if i continued to drink or would i be able to control the habit if i only did it once every 3-4 weeks

No, your dad IS an alcoholic, because there is no "was" in alcoholism. He may well be a RECOVERING alcoholic --- that is, one who no longer drinks --- but he will always BE an alcoholic. Also, it isn't a matter of you BECOMING an alcoholic; alcoholics are born, not made. Until you take the first drink the alcoholism you might have inherited isn't obvious yet, but it is already there. You see, there is no BEFORE and there is no AFTER alcoholism; there is only not drinking YET or having STOPPED drinking. If you are indeed an alcoholic, the longer you drink the harder it will be to stop, and if you DO stop the harder it will be to STAY sober. If you THINK you might be an alcoholic, you're way ahead of a lot of other people who NEVER admit that they are, but it would also be a good idea for you to think long and hard about how serious you want this problem --- and believe me, it IS a problem --- to become. The old saying "quit while you're ahead" absolutely applies here.

If you think you have a problem with booze then you probably do ! It's very "adult " of you to be asking about it. If you want some help with your question look up AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) in any phone book and give them a call. You don't have to make any commitment and they ARE anonymous.
Don't think you are too young ! I used to think AA was for "Old Drunks" but not any more. There are more and more people your age getting involved with the program because it works !
They also have a web site you can check out for some answers too. www.alcoholics-anonymous.org/
Good luck !

As has been mentioned, if you think you have a problem, you probably do, the space between drinking sessions over the years will get less and less. as someone else mentioned, dont let age put you off seeking help, thinking you'll grow out of it, it rarely happens, If you want a definitive answer about the effects of drinking, go to a couple of open meetings of AA, it is anonymous, dont use your real name if you dont want to, try to listen to a few of the similarities between your life and what you hear. and keep an open mind.

My Dad was an alcoholic but I didn't inherit the addiction.I drink but only in moderation.I know it's hard to avoid drinking in social environments, just don't over do it.You have demonstrated that you can control it.Try hanging out with friends that don't drink sometimes and it will be easier for you.

Sounds like you already have a problem. Stop drinking and engage in activities with friends that do not drink. I know peer pressure is difficult but you must take care of yourself and and avoid situations that include drinking. Also you must cut yourself off from your friends that encourage drinking.

if your asking the question then it might be a prob.. find other things to do with your time. drinking is addictive .. you seem smart though. at least you are wondering and you know it is wrong. now you just have to deal with it and make a decision on what you want to do.. good luck with it and hope everything works out...

If you even think you may have a problem...guess what ?
You have a problem. Give it up today. You'll be glad you did later on in life.

if you crave it, then feeding that craving will only make it worse, and then you will become an alcoholic if you were to keep it up.
