You'll wind up paying 40-100$ a month for karate lessons for any age. In my experience,a "Black Belt Factory" will be a little more expensive, but you'll have a black belt in 18-30 months. Don't look at the price tag when you are shopping for a karate school. Look at the instructors, are they patient with kids? Are they disciplined? are they tough enough on their students without stepping over the line into marine drill sergeant? Look at the students, especially the black belts. Are they focused in their training? do they goof off the whole class? Do they help each other with their training? Do they have a good attitude? Look at the school itself. Is it set up with safety in mind(any poles or support beams covered with padding)? Does it have a welcoming or inviting atmosphere(if the building feels scary or unwelcoming your kid will not want to go to class)? Are they insured? Do you have to sign a training waiver(this is a good thing)?
Look at a couple of schools and let your kid take a free lesson from any school you consider. Good Luck!

It does vary depending on the school. Some cost more initially and charge a higher monthly fee but you get more group and individual classes. Some cost less monthly, but any privates are extra. The best bet is to go to various schools, they should all offer free classes and see which has the best rates for you. However the lowest one isn't always the best option. Make sure you take into account the faciliites, do you feel comfortable with the instructor(s), are there other children within that age range, and how the instructor(s) work with the children. Sometimes those intangibles are worth the extra cost. Also some schools offer discounts for more than one child.

Caution, Simple and easy to understand bulleted list approaching!
Here's what you should expect:
- Classes for a karate or other similar school typically run about $30-$80/month, and anything more than that should have a very good reason for costing so much.
- Contracts are a way of life, yes, but in martial arts, contracts are a way of the freakin' devil. Do NOT sign a contract for more than 3 mothes. The best way to go is to pay by the month, one month at a time. If you detect ANY trace of high pressure sales techinques, get out of there fast.
- Be wary of a Karate school's Pro Shop (you know, where they peddle karate gear to the students). Be VERY wary of a school's Pro Shop if they require you to buy the karate gear from them, and only them.
- The guy/gal whom you talk to about enrolling your kid shouldn't make you feel as if you're kid NEEDS to be there, they should make you feel as though it would be a healthy and welcome addition to your kid's life (as it will be). If they bust out some sort of, "What? Don't you WANT your kid to be able to defend himself?", line on you, a flag should go up in your mind saying, "This guys is kinda shifty."

It does vary from class to class, some schools may want a 6 month contract and they'll throw in a uniform as part of the contract, they may just do it in a 3 month contract, while others will do it by a month to month basis, so you really have to look and see what schools are nearby that're interesting and go for a trial time that they may offer without signing a contract deal..
you will have other things to buy like sparring gear and patches for the uniform but a lot of times they're lready included that they might have a package deal for that as well.

It really depends on location and style of martial arts. It can be anywhere from $30 up to $100 per month! Plus there are contracts so if your child decides 3 months down the road, he/she doesn't want to continue, you're still stuck paying the monthly dues until the contract expires. I would suggest your child taking some free lessons and see if this is something they enjoy or else they will want to quit before the contract ends.

It varies, depending on the kind of martial arts you choose. It isn't much, and costs are kept low once you buy your uniform, as there isn't anything else to purchase. I highly suggest putting children in martial arts, it's great for them physically and mentally. I had my black belt by 11 years old, and it was a great accomplishment for me. I am very thankful my parents put me in karate as a young child.
