Right now my hair is dyed jet black. I'd like to get back a dark, dark brown. Is there anyway to do that? It's something I'm probably going to have to do by myself. Any advice, tips, or suggestions on what to do? I'm just tired of the black hair.

Never said jet black looks bad. I love it, I'm just ready for another color. So, only people with real answers, please. Thanks! Oh, and if you don't like the questions, get out of the beauty area!

if your hair is DYED black right now, there is NO WAY to DYE it ANY other color... color does NOT lift color. Your best bet would bee to seek the help of a professional stylist because you would need to strip the old color out of your hair by means of bleach and then deposit color on that. This is a difficult process which is considered a corrective color and to keep the integrity of your hair, I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself. If you do, be prepared to end up with an off color of hair.

I KNOW what you mean! I love my hair black, but I decided to go a little more into a dark brown. I had to strip my hair of color first, using a 20 volume bleach (I used 20 because I didn't want my hair to be too blonde).
Then, for a temporary fix, I used a TEMP color on my hair. I repaired it with hot oils for 2 weeks, then used the same color I found in a TEMP in a permanent dye and dyed it that color.
This worked for me, it takes a couple weeks, but I think it was worth it. I hope you find what you need.
Good luck Hon!

Supposedly if you go to a stylist and "strip" your hair it would come back to the natural color because it will remove all chemicals from your hair.
I don't know about that.
Either continue to wash it and let it lighten that way and then throw some dye over it or buy bleach....you might need to do it a couple of times though because the first time it can look really muddy no matter what you put over it.

I'm assuming that you dyed the hair yourself and a salon didn't do it?
If so, if you go to the hair dye section of any drug store or walmart or wherever, there is a product that will pull some color and prepare your hair for being re-dyed. I don't remember who puts it out anymore, but I used it 2 years ago after a bad color choice. I re-dyed it the same night after using that stuff.

There used to be a product called Metalex I think that took color out of hair. Why not try the 1-800 number on the box? Clairol has one.

I have not tried it but some recommend ColorFix which removes color. You could always shampoo with some Prell or Dawn dishsoap, it's harsh, but may help wash it out eventually. I always go a shade lighter than I want bc my hair is porous and I end up with too-dark hair. I'm switching to demi-permanent to see how that goes.

you are not going to be able to put another color over it... color does not lift color, in other words, if you put another color over it,, it will just make it darker.......just keep washing it and let if fade naturally if you do not want to go to a salon to get it fixed the correct way..... hopes this helps

i think, you should be able to get something to strip the color out, go to a hair place like Sally's and ask them about it.
