In addition to using the pain medication of your choice, sleep on an extra pillow to elevate your head. Sleep on the side that does NOT have a toothache. If that doesn't work, you can move to a recliner or the sofa so you can keep your head really elevated. This will minimize the blood flow to the area and therefore minimize the throbbing and pain. This might help you make it through the night until you can see a dentist.

Natural mouthwashes are very soothing. Tom's mouthwash has peppermint and witch hazel which are very soothing to the toothache until you can get to a dentist. Good luck!

Until you can see a dentist, chew on a whole clove (if you're into non meds) or take Advil or Tylenol. Gotta get it checked out asap though. toothaches generally don't go away on their own. If you wait it will only cost you more in pain and money.

If you have a cavity or chipped tooth that is causing the pain,Red Cross toothache drops applied to the opening can give temporary relief until you see a dentist. They are available at large drugstores such as CVS.

Get a long sock or something, and fill it with small bags of frozen peas. Now wrap this around your face, along your jawline. You can also do this once you have them extracted, because believe me, it's just as bad. Ibpruofen also really helps, so keep it up and don't wait for them to wear off before taking another. Whilst sleeping, prop a pillow to one side of you so you don't lie flat; trust me, it works. And don't sleep with less than two pillows as it will take off the blood pressure.
