1)Why do muslims fast?
to prepare urself to persevere and to control ur entire system -- body, mind and soul. Ramadhan is not just about fasting, its time for us to learn to keep ourselves in control. it is a time where one can learn to deal with the evil things and intentions and looking forward to being a better human being. it is a time to learn to forgive and ask for forgiveness. Ramadhan is the time for people to better themselves in virtues of endurance, patience and forgiveness. thats what its all about. it is the time to learn to give.

2)Why do muslims pray five times a day and what do they gain from it?
why should we pray?
Qu'ran -- Al-Baqara | 286 verses | The Cow سورة البقرة
Sura #2 | Madina
45 Seek help in patience and prayer; and truly it is hard save for the humble-minded,
46 Who know that they will have to meet their Lord, and that unto Him they are returning.

Al-Ankaboot | 69 verses | The Spider سورة العنكبوت
Sura #29 | Makkah
45 Recite that which hath been inspired in thee of the Scripture, and establish worship. Lo! worship preserveth from lewdness and iniquity, but verily remembrance of Allah is more important. And Allah knoweth what ye do.

should all of us pray? NO. it is obligatory fardh -- for those who can. women here enjoin more. why? as Prayer is obligatory for women during their monthly cycles, during pregnany and during lactation and post-partum bleeding. also women have an added advantage -- they can pray at home -- if they are busy and cant go to a mosque.
Muhammed-pbuh has said --"if u cant stand and pray, then sit down and pray. if u cant sit down and pray then lie down and pray. if u cannot lie down and pray then pray with ur tongue."

why do we pray 5 times?
we cannot remember God at all times, that is why man should make some time for God, however busy he is. God deserves the most attention, but God isnt merciless -- that is why He understands if we dont pray when we are busy. and if one has missed a prayer, then he can pray any other time as Qaza Prayer.

what will we gain by praying?
Ar-Rad | 43 verses | The Thunder سورة الرعد
Sura #13 | Makkah
28 Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest(Satisfaction)!

1. Other religions fast not just muslims.
2. Daniel prayed I think 4 times a day. I think about God and I praise and thank Him everytime the Spirit moves me, it can be ten times a day.
3. I don't eat pork and I am not a muslims. The Bible teaches that the pig is unclean for us to eat; it was made to clean the earth, eat garbage. Also the catfish, snail, lobsters, crabs, these are all scavengers made to clean the sea and earth. Read Leviticus, and Deut.
4. Pray to the Lord sincerely as often as you are moved to do so.

Why do you want to be part of an organization that teaches you to kill yourself; that believes that if you do sacrifice yourself you get wine and women when you go to heaven?

Because they ar the proscribed practices initiated by the Prophet Mohammad - the bring health and spiritual benefits

It seems that most people need guidance - some kind of framework for their physical and spiritual life

The problem seems to be that most people ar reluctant to change or they dont see the big picture

As I understand it - the universe is unfolding and th social laws need to be updated from time to time - thats part of the purpose of a religion - they all have the same core beliefs, but th social laws and practices ar different

Like all things in nature - each religion has its time, then a new one comes along - so the people who hold fast to the old one end up loosing the plot - hence the confusion and conflict

.the hate speech from those who hate should make any serious observer run from them to Islam.your questions need more time than one can give on y.a.we do as we are commanded and we fear not the blame of any blamer.so let them perish in their grief.evidently you have studied islam from muslims as oppossed to from christians.imagine,a christian tryin to explain islam when they themselves dont get it!anyway ,may Allah guide you to his submission and not mans.
