Im interested in purchasing a new camcorder, but have no idea what is the best and latest technology that will be around for a few years to come. I dont want a quick fading fad.....My last was a Sony Mini Dv. camcorder, is that technology going out or staying??
Thanks for all your input!

A new Sony MiniDV is the way to go or an HDV. Camcorders with DVD or hard disk as the recording media are not the most reliable. For portability and reliability you can't beat tape and the best tape on the market is MiniDV.

Just went through all this myself and ended up buying a Sony handycam, actually their cheaper model. The Panasocnic has the best quality picture because of the three ccd processors but they are poor in low light conditions which was important to me. I likethe sony touch screen controls but the screen is not covered by waranty. If you want to do editing of your videos get the tape, not the mini DV because of the compression editing is difficult. You can go to the hard drive but then you are into money. I know others who have look and have also come up with the same decision.

I have a Sony DVD Handycam and it really has been Great! It was a little expensive but I think the price has considerable gone down. Try looking for it on EBay, Newegg, Tigerdirect, but also try Pricegrabber.com, they compare prices right there for you from different sites. I think DVDs are the next fad and not likely to fade.
