See my answer to your other question.
FYI: postive blood cultures to not indicate sepsis. The root infection that caused the sepsis can be from anywhere. + Blood cultures just indicate that there is an infection in the blood which is different from sepsis. You can have an infection in the blood, just like an infection anywhere else, that is limited only to that system.
The source of your mom's sepsis is her perforated bowel, which leaked stool into her abdominal cavity.
Please be careful asking questions online. I've noticed people have given you false informantion, and you chose one as "Best Answer" that stated that sepsis was an infection in the blood. That is false information, that sounds very true. Everyone means well here, and I believe that they are only trying to help. Please ask your nurses and doctors.
As I said, see my answer to your other question--that should answer all your questions. E-mail me by clicking my avitar if you have any additional questions.

Septic shock would result from septicemia, or a systemic infection. This could be diagnosed by positive blood cultures which would show growth of a probably gram + bacteria in the blood. Shock would be indicated by multiple organ failure, increased WBC count, low blood pressure, high pulse, high respiratory rate, and other various symptoms. If she is being prescribed various potent antibiotics, there is a possibility that she could develope MRSA which is an antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The outcome of this situation varies with every individual, but should not be handled lightly. Go to the website I referred and it gives tons of great info on this process. Hope this helps you out, and good luck!

she could be. Ask her doctor to explain to you what is going on, and what is the name of the bacteria in this illness. Sounds like she may need an attorney for personal injury or medical error.
