It is a fair question which is hard to ask without being called heartless or unfeeling for beggars. It is not a simple problem to solve.

Truth is, the safety of everyone is jeopardised both the beggars and the motorists and the pedestrians. What policeman wants to be on TV pulling helpless beggars off the street? The problem cannot be solved by punishing the beggars, they have nothing to lose.

Put a toll booth in at a nearby safe place and use the money to fund a soup kitchen nearby. Then forbid the paying of beggars at dangerous places and ticket anyone giving money to the beggars at the stop light. Tell the beggars to move on and give tickets to the beggars to exchange for food at the soup kitchen. The con artists will leave as they only want money and the hungry will get fed. If nobody pays beggars, there, then eventually people will stop begging.

No , there is no point in asking the traffic police to do something.
PL try to understand my friend, between a beggar and a policeman the only difference is the uniform other wise both do the same.
And you can not expect one brother to go against other.
The life of the children who are begging at traffic signal is all ready endangered and there is nothing new in that and so is the case of a motorists life. With Bad roads , insufficient lighting and rash drivers on the road a motorist's life is all ready at risk and there all so nothing new in it .
As long as our government do not set their priorities right
so long we will continue to see children's begging at traffic signals with traffic police acting mute spec taters.

The traffic police are given the duty of minding the road traffic. They are aware of the fact that if they mind the begging children then they will not be able to mind the traffic at that time.Actually I think that they are there to mind the motorists and there may not be any specific provision in the rule regarding their duty of minding the children also. When the Govt. will include minding the begging children also in their duty then they will do that also.Motorist must take care and see that they do not endanger the life of not only their own , but also the begging children , the walking public and the police man also by their rash driving.

For your information,I have verified this long back. If the police take the beggars or children into custody they cannot starve them in the lock up. They will have to feed them. For feeding the government of India sanctions Re1/- per person per day. This amount is also not paid in advance. The policeman will have to spend it from his pocket and reimburse later.
Secondly there is no law banning beggars in this country. Put yourself in the place of the Poor policeman and you will realise that the so called leaders are responsible for the plight of people and not the policeman.

Police gets their fair share from those beggars.
I have heard that its begging mafia which gives money on weekly basis to the police.
So in a corrupt country like India its a good excuse for police to allow beggars to be every where.

We cannot blame the police alone. We all are equally responsible. But the fact is that except for a few , rest of us hesitate in coming forward and helping our fellow citizens who are less fortunate.

traffic police wt. for you to hit the person to charge either of you for an accident!.. stoping them from begging is not in traffic police juridiction i think... - i think so!..

for them to act i think they need the crime under theit rights...as i donn see beggers running away from traffic police but they do from the normal police...;-)

Because they are not hurting anyone. There are a lot more serious crimes being committed that the police should be worrying about. ie.. drug dealers, murders, child abuse, terrorism, etc.
