Your dentist is a "quack". There is not way that tooth should still be hurting and, certainly no good dentist would say it'll eventually get better. I think the other people here are right, sounds like an abscess. Please find yourself another dentist and go for a second opinion.

oochie! last time that happened to me I needed a root canal! But don't be scared... first of all I went to the dentist and he said he could make it better, gave me some novacain and I didn't even know I was getting a root canal until after!!!! so I wasn't nervous at all. With the numbness it doesn't hurt at all, just lay back, open up and it will be over in a while... If your dentist isn't helping you then you should get a second opinion because you shouldn't be in that much pain good luck :)

If it's been 3 months and it's getting worse instead of better, it sounds like you need the nerve taken out of the tooth. (root canal treatment) When was the last time your dentist said it would get better? If it was this week, I'd look for another opinion.

You may need to have the cavity taken out and replaced,, or you may need to have your slef checked for an abscess. (which could mean antibiotics or a root canal). You might try a better dentist as well. Hope you feel better soon.

Sensative teeth usually have the enamel or the dentin worn off them. Brushing too hard can cause this. In your case, I would ask the doc for a topical solution of Flouride. Usually, you put some on your finger, apply it to the tooth, then wait a minute and spit it out. ( Dont swallow it ). Flouride is a poison.

Your Dentist is right! Try using a straw to avoid cold drinks getting on the tooth in question.

part of the root might be exposed. I had a VERY sensitive tooth and had a root canal and it doesnt hurt anymore.
try sensitive toothpaste until you can get back to your dentist.

if you do not have a cavity then your gums may have worn away from the bottom of your teeth. you might try some sensitive formula tooth paste. it may ease the pain over time

I hate to say it, but you may need a root canal. It sounds absessed.
