I'm not sure where you're from, but to go to Julian in winter is pure bliss -- but this is coming from someone who never sees rain or snow unless I go to Julian. For me (a San Diegoan) I would find a place on Lake Cuyamaca which is just minutes from Julian. HOWEVER - if you come from someplace with snow, realize this is basic snow at best. They have great bakeries, great apple pies, the town is really cute We look at Julian and the Lake, and Idyllwild as winter retreats, but we're from San Diego where it's 75 degrees 10 months of the year.

There are a number of San Diego bed and breakfast inns in Julian as well as an historic hotel. Visit the Orchard Hill Country Inn (rated 4 diamonds by AAA). The casual elegance of Orchard Hill Country Inn will delight you and the many amenities will make you want to return again soon.
Julian is a cute little town with unique shops. They go all out at Christmas with decorations, Christmas carolers, and Victorian costumes. The historic town is known for its apple pie, many bed and breakfasts, and wineries (with free wine tasting).

The Julian Lodge is right on the main drag just south of the cider mill. There is also a very rustic inn in the hills that I stayed at and it was very fun and cozy.
They have a real gold mine that gives tours and it is awesome. You can also hike the area and see some cool stuff. there is an old jail house still standing also south of the cider mill on the same side of the street and then walk down an embankment to a fenced pasture; you will see it there. Other than that, the shops, buildings and antiques alone are interesting and the food is good there any time of year. Have fun!

Julian at Christmas time is beautiful! For most San Diegans, it provides the closest thing to a classic Christmas experience (ie.,snow, Christmas trees). Enjoy the apple pie at the Julian Pie Company or Dudley's and check out the cute shops.

The frst thing I thought of when I read the word Julian was apple pie- the second apple bread lol. Just an overnight is enough to see the area. Stay at the Julian hotel & plan to pan for gold. You will want to charge your camera battery too, lots of pretty places to take a good Christmas card family photo. Be prepared for it to be cold at night.

Julian's a fun little town... a lot more commercial than it use to be. I grew up "over the hill" from there in Pine Valley. I can remember when we use to play their school in volleyball.. their gym ceiling was so low we didn't know how to play and usually broke at least one light fixture!
Depending on what else you decide to do while you're in SD, you can either stay in Julian (the bed and breakfast is an awesome place but make sure you get resers!) or in SD and then drive up.
I'm taking my husband there in November when we got visit my parents. He can't wait to take the walking tour through the goldmine which is jut outside of town. Oh, make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes and that's the easiest way to see the town.

It is a small community, alot of Biker bars, but, it old world charm, I would suggest that if you are going at Christmas time ,you make reservations, you know how people want that perfect Christmas log cabin, fire-place,and great ambience. They even have horse -drawn carriages that ttake you on winding roads(only so far). My experince was awesome my girlfriend and I played in the snow, had every piece of apple pie you can imagine and then some. It is a very tranquil place, NOT to talk you out of it , but, snowboard competitions happen in Big Bear at about the same time, depending on the depth of the snow, it depends what you are looking for...

People in San Diego go there in hopes of seeing a little snow (no guarentee in December) and to get away from the urban sprawl. If you're from somewhere that has snow, has cute little towns, you'll be wasting a good vistis to San Diego to see something you'll probably feel is quite ordinary.
If you still decide to go, don't plan on spending much time as there isn't much to the town, so you can take in everything it has to offer in anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on how slowly you move.

there isnt that much to do in julian...a night or two at tops should be good. hotel del coronado on coronado island has a huge christmas tree in their lobby which is really nice. coronado also has a great beach, but not ideal if you want to surf. its an expensive hotel though too, but i heard its really nice and worth it. you could go to sea world and of course, the world famous san diego zoo. the malls are also really nice.

Only if you enjoy boredom!!!!! Save your gas money and stay around the beach and enjoy it. Way too much to do in San Diego and nothing to do in Julian except give you're money to over priced merchants.
