Fasting in any religion brings the person closer to God by helping them remove the impurities and distractions from their life. All the major religions use fasting to bring one into a closer relationship with God and to think about one's actions.
Hunger for food can also bring hunger for God.

As a muslim convert, fasting has given me mental and spiritual discipline and more importantly, in the two times I've observed Ramadan, Allah has blessed me with two very important things which have given me abundant happiness. My first Ramadan was when I formally proposed marriage to my non-Muslim wife (which she accepted) and on my second Ramadan was when my wife gave birth to our daughter.

That's what I gained from Ramadan.

Allahu Akbar!

what CHANGE it brought among Muslims?.
u dont have to prepare urself for a fast. u have to prepare urself to persevere and to control ur entire system -- body, mind and soul. Ramadhan is not just about fasting, its time for us to learn to keep ourselves in control. it is a time where one can learn to deal with the evil things and intentions and looking forward to being a better human being. it is a time to learn to forgive and ask for forgiveness. Ramadhan is the time for people to better themselves in virtues of endurance, patience and forgiveness. thats what its all about. it is the time to learn to give.

I would go further on if you want to but In Islam in states that the point of fasting is to teach us to be patience, to appreciate our food n drinks (lots of us waste them some take them for granted), etc
