even though tthey dont believe in him and also isnt it interesting that people all around the world pray? Like some people will pray before they eat even though they dont believe in God.
Acts 17:22-31
22Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.
24"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'
29"Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by man's design and skill. 30In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead."

It is natural for living entity to take shelter of the Lord, because our constitutional position is that we are eternally subordinated to the Lord and protected by Him. We came to this material world because we wanted to enjoy separately from the Lord, but in this way we can never be happy, and distress is a great blessing, because, as you have pointed out, even people who usually do not think of God, remember Him when in distress. Remeberance of the Lord gradually purifies the living entity from his rebellious enjoying mentality, and he desires to return to the Lord. Such desire is the beginning of perfection, because only returning to the Lord the living entity can become happy.

Good question and a good thought. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to answer it.
First though I must ask you what you really mean by that word you used in "believe". Many people have many degrees or views of that word. Some think to know that one does exist is believing. Another may think that as long as one has heard of the name God mentioned, it is possible that He may be. While another thinks that believe means to actually know personally and know all about Him.
In My answer, I assume the position that it means to know about him personally ans A "NO" tries to do all the time by learning every day something new OK. I say that because I call myself a "NO".
I see most did answer from their view and their beliefs and that is just fine, I also see most seem not to have been in a hard place and actually experienced the real tough times. I was in Vietnam in the Air Force for 15 months. Seen some bad stuff at times. Aldo had a job working the streets undercover later with some tough stuff. I tell you I seen too many who denied a God, etc with their words but sure cried out to God when death was knocking. Its just something you got to experience to understand OK
Now there is a view I did not see expressed. In my view OK. Why is it that the so called Christians and the self acclaimed Christians do cry out to their God when things are not the way they like it. When they hurt, get fired, are short food, money, or sick they sure cry out and ask everyone to pray for them. However when all is great they just go on with their life and no crying out to their God. In fact they just kinda try to make time when they are not busy if they do remember. Ah but let something go wrong and they do it right now and its a priority.
WHY is that? Why are they not crying out to Their God all the time with a thank you for the air to breath, the good blessing in their view, the no problems in their view, etc., etc. [In my view the thank you should be with the same intensity as the fix the problem cry]. Thus reduce the fix the problem or improve the thank you to be the same.
As a "NO" the only "NO" I know I do that all the time. I don't like to say Amen, for I want to always be thanking my God for everything all the time. I do not make time for I do it all the time.
Another thought is do not the so called Christians, etc., read the Bible. Does it not say their God is in control. Does it not say His thoughts are not their thoughts? Can their God not do what ever He wants whenever He wants. If all is correct, why do they ask God to fix the problem, stop the problem, or ask God what He is doing to them and why? Why don't they just ask their God to explain what He is doing and to ask their God to teach them what they should learn from it. Maybe their God is just using them as a tool for the benefit of others.
Look I said this is just my view and I am not trying to change people or make converts OK. It is my view and I may be wrong OK. I accept that.
Anyway thanks for the question and do have a good day. I am and I am smiling and thanking My God for the question and for Yahoo Q&A OK

If your a believer in God then, I don't find it "interesting" that you would cry out to God in a moment of deep distress. Why would that be interesting? or surprising? If your not a believer, well, you need to cry out to God or you will be in deep distress.

It is interesting, but when in distress, you will go at great lenghts to receive help. And it's comforting to ask help from a upper being.

You are completely wrong in your assertion. Completely. People do not suddenly beg God for anything if they do not believe in him.

Yes, it is fascinating. Equally interesting is that we pray for much the same things.
