The "gap" theory was proposed in the early Scofield Bible, when he tried to explain away inconsistencies with the biblical account of creation, and the apparent geological record.

This gap theory assumes that in Genesis 1:1, the earth was created, but in Genesis 1:2, God judged that earth, and recreated it in Genesis 1:3, hoping that the time frame matches the scientific theory. Others will ask, "How long was a day during creation?" hoping that the answer is millions of years long each.

This theory requires a person to read into the Bible what is clearly not there. The issue really boils down to this. Either God has made His Word completely inerrant and all sufficient, and something we can trust, or He didn't. If the Bible is not trustworthy in its details, then why bother at all?

Ultimately, either man becomes the arbiter of what is true in the Bible, or God meant what He said. As Paul says, "Let God be true, and everyone else a liar. As it is written: "You are right when you speak, and win your case when you go into court." (Romans 3:4)

Explain the gap theory! It is amazing that we can date fossils back a million years and identify these fossils with no difficulty yet there remains a gap theory? What is the gap theory suppose to be? Why do we take what is simple and make it difficult?
