Are people who read the bible and call it fantasy.. then go off and read some other piece of literature, and set up idols to the heroes of those stories, are they really just setting fictional characters to high status than God?

I dunno, I guess they do that, but is it reasonable, to set up toys and superheroes, to a higher status than God, even if each were fictional?

Strange, I think that meets the criteria for being a hypocrite, and if not, they are just plain.. strange.
Frodo, or God, or both? Both? Not possible, unless you don't set up idols and worship them, and admire them for their genius writings, and ability to use an imagination.

Agree?

Should our children worship toys? No, they just like playing with toys.

This is saying that man should not set up idols to superheroes and fantasy creatures.

I think I agree with you, Ratbrain, that it isn't good to worship action figures. I am not aware of having seen anyone do that, but if I see it, I will warn the person that they might be offending God. What does really concern me is that people actually do treat some things as being God when those things are actually not God. Some fundamentalists, I think, tend to idolize prophets, preachers and teachings as though those things were God.
I wasn't aware of the Frodo thing at all, though.

First of all, God is the Creator of all things and He tells us in the Bible, in His Commandments, to not put any idols over Him, and to not worship idols (any idol). Secondly, all idols are fictitious. Even if someone is worshipping a real person, the idol worship is a sin and they are worshipping a "false god" who is not the real God. Thirdly, to be a hypocrite means to think or believe one way and then act or talk in another way ... therefore, it is a lie .. the person is living a lie. God is love and truth ... one will either love God or not ... one will either be for Him or against Him.
I hope you are for Him.

Tolkien wrote those stories as a fiction retelling of the history of man kind.

The elves - the angels
the orcs - elves poisoned by evil - or fallen angels
the one great evil
the small band of a motley crew against it
the one tiny person (like each one of us) that could change everything

:)

Frodo is a god, whereas god is just a catch all.
god did say no idols, in fact no graven images at all.
I guess he is kind of insecure.
HE should be, coming in second to a three foot tall imaginary git.

I'm Christian. I love LOTR. Frodo (and Elijah Wood) rule. I have no idea what your refering to. I don't think anyone thinks Frodo is a god.
