who's officer hardass LOL...

You might have an issue with the brake light assembly - most cars these days use plastic light holders with metal strips to distribute power - check to make sure the contact points from the light bulb are indeed touching the metal strips and also check to make sure there are no signs of burnt plastic which can lead to incorrect placement of a bulb in the holder.

Good Luck

Car guy has the right idea the light socket after time deforms because of the heat from the bulb. So the light holder dosent sit properly. It sucks but you need a new tail light its only two 10 mil. nuts and two washers to replace. I am a prowd owner of an 86 240 wagon I have switched to LED bulbs to reduce heat I havent had a problem since. Keep representing!

Make sure the bulb is making good contact in socket. Make sure it isn't rusty preventing contact. Sometimes where the wire connects to the socket will become loose.

If not that, have someone press the brake pedal and watch the light as you wiggle the wires inside the trunk. IF the bulb is making good contact, you can bet it is a loose connection somewhere between the fuse panel and the bulb. Since only one brake light is intermittent, it isn't the brake light switch. Good luck. Pops

car guy probably has right answer but on the oddball chance that does not fix the problem it could be the bulb check relay [it measures the ground path resistance and illuminates bulb out warning on dash cluster when out of spec]. if it has failed it will cause an open in the ground circuit and sometimes be intermittent and the dash lamp may be intermittent as well. this is a rare cause but it does happen once in a while.
