This dog is the best... My son took in a 13year old dachshund(now 14) at christmas so it wouldn't be put down...
She's the sweetest old dog I could have and she fix right in with the other 2 dachschund we have.. So I'd say yes but I would ask my daughter first.... Take her with to pick out th e puppy..
They'er very lovable.
I don't ever want any other dog now.... We love our 3...
1 Male and 2 Female....
Good Luck with this..

NEVER NEVER get a pet for Christmas...
if you want to get her a pup - talk to the breeders who have litters ready in Jan or Feb.. then at Christmas give her a certificate saying she can pick a puppy out when they are ready -
giving a puppy to a kid at Christmas creates a lot of problems and reputable breeders wont even allow it (just the shadey ones encourage it) - firstly if the person cannot pick their own pup they are less likely to bond
-Christmas is a hecktic time, very chaotic and scarey for a puppy
- puppies are very demanding, the holidays are not a time you want puppy poop on your floor
- if you live in cold climate you cannot house train a small dog in the winter... rethink for spring
ok they are good dogs BUT are known for eating their own poop
they are know to get serious back and internal problems so MAKE SURE YOU GET FROM A REPUTABLE BREEDER - meaning the parents were shown to prove they are worthy of breeding and checked by a vet to make sure they are quality dogs...
make sure the pup has had a health/vet check done BEFORE you get it
NEVER NEVER get a pup from a pet store - beleive it or not pet stores sell the lowest qualty pups and they sell them for much to high prices - pet store pups are cute but they are sold and bred for one thing only - MONEY.. not temperment, not health.. just profit - they have not be raised welll and the pet store people will tell you ANYTHING to make a sale... NEVER buy from a pet store...
ok finally - "giving" a pet to a kid is not a good idea on a whole - a 14yr old cannot understand "LIFETIME" commitment - what will happen to the dog when she goes to College and cannot take the dog with? who will be paying the vet bills and buying the food? who will be taking the dog out for housetraining 4-6 times a day??? (a 14 yr old will get bored of this quickly).. who will take the dog to Obedience lessons? who will clean up the poops in the winter?? in the rain??
a 14 yr old isnt ready for that kind of lifetime commitment - if you as a family want a pet then get a FAMILY pet but DO NOT give a pet to a kid...

They are usually very sweet, subject to back problems, and occasionlly will get a bit snippy. the first person susy bit was the sheriff, he came to the house about a neighborhood problem. had to keep her in and watch her when outside, finally only took her out on a leash. She was like a baby, sweetest thing with the family.

no longer something like some sturdy ole present enjoying cards! That way she will bypass and purchase what she needs and you get rid of status in some save thinking approximately no count if or no longer she'll like it??? ITUNES, Subway and different familiar present enjoying cards are consistently a fulfillment! happy holiday journeys

i would get her a pit bull puppy, they are the most loyal pets any child or adult can have, no matter what age they get they are always real playful like a puppy. my son has a pit bull and now he won't own another dog and neither will any of my other kids.
not to mention they are the easiest dogs to housebreak

Make sure your little girl wants a dachshund, then make sure the dog is right for your household. Puppy books will help you out a little more there.
