Well alchol is probably the most common but depending on your age is of course out of the question. Music and a book is definately the best natural way around it. Having conversations with your sister is another good idea. Anything you can think of that will help you take your mind off of actually flying. Anxiety is normal but just keep concentration on something else and you should do fine.

I suggest you sleep as much as possible if you can. It will make the long trip into an extremely short one.

While I don't usually recommend links (okay, on occasion I do), I'd like to recommend a site which REALLY helped me.

In October of 2004, my family & I went to Disneyland. I was incredibly scared. But I came across a site which really reinforced the "flying is the safest way to travel" idea, and it really helped me out; I'll add it in souces if you want to take a look. Best part of it is it's operated by an airline pilot.

Your electronics will be fine to take. Only liquids (of any kind) are banned (and that's only on carry-on, everything's still allowed in checked.) Take a bag on which has every electronic entertainment device you can get ahold of. I've never been on a flight that long, but I'm sure you'll get bored after a while.

I think the fact that it'll be dark is a +. This way, there's no looking out the window and getting scared (even thought the view is the best part.) I REALLY doubt you'll sleep on the flight, so have conversations with your sister. Look at all the other people on the plane. Sorry to say it, but after you get over the initial anxiousness, you'll probably be really bored.

Good luck with your anxiousness; I'm sure you'll be fine. And, above all else, look forward to where you're going... You get to go to Hawaii!

Yes, Ipods are allowed on planes. Just be sure to keep it tuned down enough so it will not bother people around you.

You need ways to relax on a 9 hour flight at night over water? Just keep thinking about being around 7 miles above the earth flying around 550 miles per hour and all the highly flammable jet fuel in the tanks. If the plane should go down, and you survive by some miracle, think about being in the ocean 1500 miles from any land and all the hungry sharks that will be drawn by the blood.

You should have considered this fear before agreeing to fly to Hawaii. HAVE A NICE TRIP.

I started to develop claustrophobia in the late 90's, but I flew to Seattle in 2001 and was okay. I want to go back next summer, but am very nervous as the claustrophobia has gotten worse since then. I'll be watching the answers you receive, maybe someone will have some advice that can help us both. I heard on the news that some woman freaked out on a flight and they had to land the plane! I don't want to scare people, lol!

i grow to be thoroughly terrified previously my first airplane journey, so I took the scholarship attitude. I have been given out each e book i ought to discover approximately airplanes and flying, extraordinarily those that designate passenger airliners: why they fly, how they are geared up, how a pilot is experienced, how a flight is carried out, what the air-site visitors administration human beings do, and all the rest. The greater you learn related to the technique, the greater empowered you're. study motives of turbulence, and why they drop the landing kit long previously they land (it slows the airplane down) and what all that stuff out on the wings does. learn related to the dozen or so radios the plane has. in case you have your fee ticket already, you will discover out what form of airliner you would be flying on and seem it up on the internet to income all approximately it. one greater undertaking: you would be able to additionally understand that there have been no airplane hijackings considering the fact that 9/11/01 and there'll certainly be not greater. Passengers will tolerate no nonsense in besides: they are able to and could neutralize all people who makes worry.

You cannot have IPods, gels, liquids, or anything like that with you on the plane. If you are leaving from LAX, Ontario, or John Wayne, do not even think of bring that stuff with you. Do not have your shoes on or any jewelry, sweaters, or anything like that with you.
