I seem to remember somewhere in the Bible it talks about the "seed of the women" so at that time they knew that the women contributed to a conception. In the gospel, it says that Mary was conceived by the Holy Spirit, so Joseph was only the legal father, not the genetic father. But what about Mary?

I should have prof read the question before posting. I know that Jesus was Mary son (and Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, not Mary). Sorry about the confusion.

It would seem that Jesus would have had to derive some genetic material from Mary in order to truly be a Davidic king and part of Abraham's "seed", as prophecy required.

Interestingly, Mary did not remain a virgin after the birth of Jesus. The Scriptures clearly discuss the siblings of Jesus.

(Matthew 1:25) [Joseph] had no intercourse with [Mary] UNTIL she gave birth to a son; and he called his name Jesus. [caps added]

(Matthew 13:53-56) Jesus had finished these illustrations he went across country from there. 54 And after coming into his home territory he began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astounded and said: “Where did this man get this wisdom and these powerful works? 55 Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And his sisters, are they not all with us?

(Mark 6:3) This is the carpenter the son of Mary and the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon, is it not? And his sisters are here with us, are they not?

(Luke 8:19-21) Now [Jesus'] mother and brothers came toward him, but they were unable to get to him because of the crowd. 20 However, it was reported to him: “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside wanting to see you.” 21 In reply he said to them: “My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”

(John 2:12) After this he [Jesus] and his mother and brothers and his disciples went down to Capernaum, but they did not stay there many days.

(John 7:5) His [Jesus'] brothers were, in fact, not exercising faith in him.

(Acts 1:14) With one accord all these were persisting in prayer, together with some women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his brothers.

(1 Corinthians 9:5) the rest of the apostles and [Jesus] the Lord’s brothers and Cephas

Yes, Jesus is the genetic son of Mary, the Mother of God. The Biblical quote you are refering about is Genesis 3:15. However, you are mistaken when you say Mary was conceived by the Holy Spirit. The angel Gabriel is telling Mary Jesus shall be conceived by the Holy Spirit. Of course, Jesus was nourished by Mary while in her womb and had her DNA. This bloodline went back to King David and to Abraham.

There is another Old Testament verse refering to the "shoot of Jesse". As a Catholic I share the same faith as Orthodox Christians in the belief that Mary was IMMACULATELY Conceived. Some people think this phrase refers to Jesus. Not so. This is what is meant in scripture saying Mary is "full of grace". The greatest grace God can bestow upon a person is not to be inflicted by the original sin of Adam and Eve.

The movie SONG OF BERNADETTE demonstrates the truth about Mary being the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION. It is a true story of Bernadette (a French girl) graced with visions and numerous miracles that have been scientifically documented.

How in the world anyone could imagine the Mother of God could have any stain of sin in bearing the Son of God makes no sense. God, who can do anything, would not have a woman with sin bear His Son!

Mary's genetic material would have been used, but the material contributed by the Holy Spirit would have overwhelmed it. Not unlike when a white person has a child for a black person. The genetic material of the white person seems to be more recessive, so the child has many of the appearances of being black.

The Holy Spirit contributed the same genetic material that was found in Adam and Eve, the origin of all humans. It would have overwhelmed hers. In order to be the sacrificial lamb to remove the sin brought into the world by Adam, Christ had to be the replacement for Adam.

As God's Son, his first born, Christ took on a very important role, though he would not fully understand it until he was baptized and the Holy Spirit gave him the knowledge of his pre-existence. Yes, he was told who and what he was, but that is a long way from having the knowledge in you brain of all your past experiences, since your creation. Imagine what that was like to suddenly have that downloaded into your brain. It would be like a person with extended amnesia over a long period of time, suddenly getting back all their memories.

Mary was the biological mother of Jesus the son of God. Your a little confused when it comes to the phrase; seed of the women. The women mentioned is the kingdom of God, it was not referring to Mary, and some have thought it was Eve, but this is wrong. Jesus is not God but his first created angelic son who spent eons with his Father, where his Father taught him everything and then shared with him in creating all other things. Mary was not without sin, she was just a righteous women in God's eyes.

Yes Mary was the mother of Jesus. You see Mary's Mother was a levite(priest line), and her father was from the tribe of Judah(king line).thus the king line and the priest line came together making Jesus king of kings and lord of lords after the order of Melchisedec. You can read about Melchisedec in Hebrews 7:17+21 also read Gen 14:18-20. The seed of the woman you were talking about is in Gen 3:15 When God told the serpent(satan) "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."

I would say yes, because in Genesis God spoke of the woman's seed. Trinity believers will say no though because they believe he is all God. But I always think if God could of came down here in the flesh at anytime why didn't he just transform himself to the appropriate age and come down. Why born of a virgin. Maybe it was because Jesus was part of God and part of woman and had the free will to either do his Father's will or follow Satan. I for one am glad he chose his Father.

If it were true, her egg would have had to have been fertilized to be pregnant, there for half of Jesus' genes were hers...just like any mother. But we all know this was not true because there were many supposed Messiah's who were all said to have been virgin births, conceived by spirits. Come ON!

Yes - Jesus was a man but also God. 100% man and 100% God. Mary was his mother just like any other mother - He was flesh and Spirit of God both.

Maybe just Mary's mitochondrial DNA was used from her enucleated egg. That is a technology used today in fertility clinics. Maybe God just created a human form in the womb of Mary. (He does not need to use DNA).

Mary was the mother of Jesus because she carried him in her womb and raised him. She was not the mother of Jesus because of DNA. She was not chosen to be the mother of Jesus because of her DNA. It was her heart and spirit that caused her to be chosen.
