Had this problem about a month ago. It hurts. The main thing to do is NOT TALK! it is hard but you heal alot faster. My voice was gone for over ten days. My doctor said no taking and not even a whisper. Any sound that comes out is hurting your vocal cords an could do some long term damage. Mine was from a Keith Urban concert and was well worth it but I feel for you. Drink lots of hot tea that is soothing and keep quiet. Write things down and be patient. Motrin also helps with the inflammation but I needed a Vicodin for the pain. Good Luck

Hi there,
I am a health trainer & many times I will lose my voice when I conduct consecutive days of workshops and talks. Before my talks, I will always buy herbal tea (luo han guo) and keep it as my drink. Pi Pa Gao is very good for reducing the inflammation of the voicebox. In addition, do whisper and not talk so you can rest your voicebox.Hope this is helpful and take care.

There is an herbal tea available at many grocery stores called "Throat coat" - look for it in tea section. Good stuff. It tastes kinda bad, but works well.

Do not talk unless you absolutely have to. Let your vocal cords heal.

your vocal cords are probably inflammed... laryngitis, it's called.

take it easy on the talking... if you're going to whisper, do it softly-- the wrong kind of whisper can actually create too much friction in your vocal folds, prolonging your recovery.

i've always heard that singers drink hot tea with honey and lemon. i've heard of people just drinking honey... and i've heard of people drinking lemon tea with honey.. or even just hot water with honey and lemon.. either way, something about those three ingredients is soothing. probably the thickness of the honey coats your vocal cords.

just take it easy with the talking.. no screaming, no singing, no hoarse whispering. you should be alright in a few days. :)

cough drops help, but the main thing is to just give it a rest! Don't talk for a few days. Sounds hard, but try to communicate with writing or hand signals.

Hot tea with honey has a soothing effect.
Mostly, you need to let it rest.
