I'm fed up of reading 'questions' on here from yanks who have visited the UK and not liked it. They all say the same things:
"English people are unfriendly"
"Whats with the warm beer?"
"Why's everything so expensive?"
"I was made to feel like a tourist"
In reality the reason none of you like it is down to one thing. You people all come here expecting everything be exactly the same as at home, just a bit 'quainter'. You don't accept the fact that things are different. You don't prepare yourselves for higher prices and smaller portions. You don't accept that Britain is a modern European nation and most of us aren't here to entertain you but instead we are just trying to get on with our lives. You don't accept that we Brits are a reserved people who keep ourselves to ouselves, and when we don't throw our arms around you and tell you our life story on first meeting, you get offended.
If you want everything to be just like home, try staying at home.

B. Miller - Would you like to see my passport? It has the words BRITISH CITIZEN on it in big black letters for you. Also I'm glad to be represented by a head of state with intelligence and decorum, instead of a stupid, corrupt, war mongering ape.

Whoa, calm down, hon!
Not all Americans are like that, I promise. I haven't travelled to the UK, but when I do, I definitely intend to enjoy being immersed in a different culture; that's the whole point of travelling to a foreign country!

I have traved to Europe several times and I enjoy the UK particularly London. I am surprised that people say they don't like it. They may not reallize that the pound is worth more than the dollar and that will make it expensive. I am sorry if you are bothered by the "yanks" but they are spending money in your country, and there are many places to travel to in the world. I also think people are more likly to complain than to say how nice things are. I think the people who make these statements have not stayed long enough to experience your true culture, or don't get out much. Anyway, I am sure most americans who visit (on purpose) have an enjoyable time.

sadly i think you have come across the people who complain, which is a dissapointment. As a first generation kiwi who has all her family in the UK, i personally love the UK,and do feel sad when i leave.
all the questions you have mentioned there, show the close mindedness and idiotness of some people who visit other countries, and sadly reinforce the fact that americans can be extremely stupid some times
"i was made to feel like a tourist"
umm hello!!! YOU ARE A TOURIST!!
"Why is everything so expensive"
try being a NZ'er going to the UK,then you will relize what expensivness is.
"English people are unfriendly"
basicly the writer quote sums this one up "You don't accept that we Brits are a reserved people who keep ourselves to ouselves, and when we don't throw our arms around you and tell you our life story on first meeting,"
Im sure there are thousands of americanS who go the the UK and love it there, but sadly there are the idiot ones who decide to post on silly questions.
Ithere HAS to be a few questions and anweres that show americans do like the UK..

Ive never been there ,I've heard a lot about it but if all the people are as hateful as you seem to be then I would not want to visit there..I do understand that life there is different than here and I would expect it to be..Not all Americans expect a big hug and your life story..And of course prices all over are different , that's to be expected also and we are Tourist if we are over there and we should expect to be treated a little different but you sound mean..I just hope everyone there doesn't have your attitude..If so maybe that's why the ones that have visited felt the way you claim we do..

I'm an American who moved to the UK this Monday. I agree, many visiting Americans need to realize that the UK is a foreign country and adjust to the different customs. Most Americans just need to tone down the loud and friendly attitude a bit and listen at least as much as they talk.
Many Americans, and I expect to be one of them, are quite happy here.
However, some of us are a bit put off by foreigners referring to our president as a "stupid, corrupt, war mongering ape", regardless of whether we agree or disagree. Politeness and tact are other typically British traits, which seem to be represented by some better than others.

Because we are diverse with several European cultures, most of which are very 'warm', (even most Brits here are more friendly than they probably would be in England) and a pioneer spirit (like Australia), we tend to embrace life a little differently.
Of course, it's also our lack of sophistication when it comes to traveling abroad. You are right when you say, we are unprepared. People don't really know what to expect (except maybe the warm beer!!).

do no longer love them, do no longer hate them. that is purely people conversing English in a distinctive component to the international. the only time I ever think of approximately American accents is while people ask approximately them in this website. Which happens a hell of lots. there is the two some style of troll conspiracy occurring or you individuals are easily obsessed to an undesirable quantity. I on no account take a seat around wishing I had an American accessory or thinking why they sound distinctive to ours. If a British person has an activity in distant places languages or unusual accents, there is no could look to u . s . a .. Mainland Europe is on our doorstep.

Gee, I've always thought the UK would be a fun place to visit, but now it doesn't sound so appealing.....and all this time, I thought you Brits WERE actually there to entertain us! Now, I'm so disillusioned.
BTW, I've visited the Middle East, expected, accepted and embraced the differences, which I'm sure are far greater than the differences between the US and UK.

Not all Americans come to your country expecting it to be the same as home. I find you folks to be very polite and welcoming in a reserved way which is fine with me. I happen to think the UK is a wonderful place to visit.

Being an American in a tourist area on the east coast, I can understand your frustration. While any group of tourist can be hard to handle or even rude. Learn to laugh! Enjoy your differences...and when poor lost tourist ask you for direction...be nice. Who knows when that person could be you.
