Walk 40 mins four times per week. This child will loose weight. It is just common sense. You can make veggies taste good...occasionally stir fry the veggies with olive oil for flavor with mushrooms and onions. Stay away from pastas, potatoes and white rice except occassionally. Kids love their snacky foods so try air popped popcorn with becel margarine or a shake on flavor. Or for something sweet try refrigerated jello. The lowfat refrigerated jello puddings are great too. Much better tasting than the ones off the shelf.
The key is to stay away from fried foods unless using extra virgin olive oil. Eat only natural foods; nothing processed. Set a good example with your own eating habits...but the walk 4 times per week is a must. You do not need fancy gyms. If too cold or hot to walk outside. Take a watch with you and walk in a large mall close by. Most malls have walking clubs. Get her a diskman and her favorite music and go. Also, parents are busy these days. Save yourself some time that you can spend with your daughter. A healthy meal can be fingerfoods that have no prep time for example at our house it is not unusual for the kids to take to their parttime jobs for supper a hard boiled egg, a baggie of grapes, some saltines, a cut up tomato and a bottle of water. They get what they need physically with minimal effort on my part and they can eat on the run.

If you really want to do it- Cut out all carbohydrates after 12 noon. No matter what. No sugars, pasta, potatos, bread, rice, sugary sodas,kool-aid, juices, fruit, even some veggies, like corn, and broccoli. This is not good to do for long term, but for obese people who need to lose weight, and don't have the time or patience to deal with long term diets this is it. You can suppliment the lost vitamins from fruits and veggies with multivitamins. At the age of 11 it won't hurt her at all, the less carbs before noon the better. Make sure there is protein in every meal, including breakfast. This helps to not gain more weight, because proteins mixed with carbs help slow the sugar uptake in the bloodstream (which makes you fat). Make lots of salads with lunch meats, cheese cut up in them (no croutons), a dressing like ranch or blue cheese is low carb. At her age it's hard to stay focused-so you have to help. THIS WILL WORK. Once she's done it for 5 days drop her to no more than 30 grams carbohydrates per day. She will lose weight--When she's near her goal, slowly add a few carbs to her diet to find a balance for her. (Usually about 80-100 g. carbs per day) This will allow her to maintain the weight loss!!

I would change everything you buy at the grocery store, and itll be good for everyone. I wouldnt buy anymore heavy carb products like breads and chips. Instead buy more raw veges and nuts and fruits.
No sugar products at all. Quit buying sweet cereals. Mini Wheats are sugared, but Id go ahead and let them have that.
Its the carbs and sugars that are making them over weight. If they have to have something sweet, buy a bag or two of sugar free candy, they are good tasting and will help with the sugar cravings.
No pop, not even diet. Water is all I would keep in the house, and some lemon in the water will help.

A gym is not the answer. Maybe take her for a check up and ask the doctor if its a hormone problem. If not, find out WHY she's obese. Mostly is comes down to who is feeding her. Whoever watches her (or if she watches herself) they need to take food away. Eventually she will lose weight. If she stays home alone, maybe she eats because she's lonely. Try an afterschool program.

I suggest buying a used treadmill, or something in that nature that she could walk/ride on while you cook dinner. It gets too dark by 6:30 so it will have to be something inside. With an 11 year old you could also do exercise dvd's with her and make it fun for both of you. Good luck!

Weight is 99% the result of diet. Exercise just helps firm up the skin after the weight is lost. Of course, if someone runs 10 miles a day and doesn't eat anything additional they will lose a few ounces.

Well of course feed her extremely healthy! Maybe some days after work go for a walk with her, and try activities on the weekends. Walking, swimming, playing a field game, a playground, riding bikes. Riding a bike is usually fun, isn't usually overexerting and it burns the calories...encourage active recreation and eating healthy.

Afternoon walks on a steady schedule and when time permits on weekends bicycleing . If there is alot on junk food eating try to slowly replace with fruits. Another idea is danceing even if you just turn on the radio during the day and dance around the house while cleaning.

Cancel the cable television. Once Nikelodeon is gone she might go outside. Diet and exercise. Dont be afriad to let her know of her problem. If she knows about she will become more self concious about it, and she may take an active part in working on her weight. My little sister is the same way.

whatever you do, don't make the kid feel guilty in any way. that said, try to be positive about encouraging him/ her to get involved in sports or physical activity. . . you can put up a basketball hoop, use a community pool, buy a bike or skates- there are many enjoyable options. also, i don't know what he/she generally eats, but it goes without saying that although full meals are important, they should be healthy, too- no fast food or junk food. you can try keeping foods that are low in sugar around, try buying and making products with whole grains, rather than white. have lots of fruits and veggies in the house, and no soda or juice- encourage lots of water. you never know, you may even lose some weight and feel better yourself!
