u gotta use special shampoos that get the oils from their fur, outside dogs like mine seem to get their fur a little oilier than their indoor counterparts, even if they are the same breed. Try finding some good pet shampoos (im not doubting that you wash it) and thats all you can really do. If they have gathered the smell over a course of time, it can be very difficult to remove. Changing its diet from any meat materials (though I know yours is allergic, as you told me in your last question), can help, as well as any meat flavorings. Hopefully you can find that shampoo though, I can't think of the brand off the top of my head, but any local pet supplier should be able to direct you to a good brand!

Hi-
Don't get too upset, but your question DID sound a little...disjointed. Maybe next time hitting the "check spelling" button before you submit will discourage the "smartie" contingent out there.
Everyone is so concerned with making the surface of the dog smell better when maybe you should take the poochie to a vet and see if there is something wrong with him?!
Yes, dogs do have a body odor and some short hair breeds
have more "aroma" than long-haired dogs. I had a Bassett Hound that had a very distinctive body odor but she didn't stink.
First of all, I don't think a weekly bath is the complete answer. What are you feeding this dog? That can actually have an effect on their body odor, oddly enough. And, too much bathing can dry out the skin and lead to other problems.
Second, please get this dog to a vet for a checkup. What you think may be a body odor may be from an infection somelace on it's body that you haven't seen yet. So PLEASE get this doggie check out as soon as possible and ask about diet.
Please hug the dog for me. All will be well.
Hope this helps!

Doogie Smell:
First check your food... the quality of the food will have everything to do with your dogs smell both from thier skin and thier breath. Best "from-Walmart" dog food.... inmy opinion: Purina Benifull also Pet Stores carry a really nice brand that lots of dog trainers like Nutro...
Next check health... if your dog isn't up to date on rabies, wormer, shots, and with consitant heartworm and anti-flea/tick treatment.. well then for lack of better words, it's on you and it could be health issues
Breed of dog: Some dogs simply are more smelly than others
Bathing: Contrary to popular belief, the more often you bathe with anything soapy or sudsy, the more likely you are to have persitant smell... why? because the oil glads are having to work harder against your efforts. I recommend bathing once a month & only use Dr Bonner's liquid or any conditioning brand of doggie-shampoo without perfume. In addition, no matter what you use, thin it with water BEFORE APPLICATION... short haired dogs ratio of 1 part shampoo to 5 parts shampoo.... longer hair, even more water.... Then rinse, and I mean rinse first with water mixed with a small amount of baking soda, then rinse again & again until you can sqeeze your dogs fur in all places & there is no residue of any kind. My dog is short haired & it takes a 20 minute rinse with a shower-massage for finaly rinse.
Solutions: Brush your dog every day, and when shedding at least twice a day. The dog will smell less & will love you for the attention. Limit bathing to once per month (see above) and if the dog gets dirty & needs other bathing, only rinse with water

I have the same problem which my Labrador Retriever! She has been outside her whole life, and the stench won't come off! I am scared that if your dog has too frequent baths, it will shed or get the mange (where your dogs hair is in clumps visabily). I think that you should have a dog deotorizer in your house. I think that if you want to bring your dog in the house, you should let the dog stay in the house for a while to loose the 'outside' stench, while giving it a bath often.
I hope this has helped!=Kay

OK. It doesn't matter if your dog is an inside dog or an outside dog. If you want your dog to smell better, you have to stop feeding him the cheap dog food and feed him something more nutritious. It costs more, but if you love your pet(s) its worth it. Look on the bag, if it has less than 18% protein then your feeding your dog fillers (such as feathers, bone meal and fat) Cheap dog food translates to a smelly dog, big, big stools and hair that is less than shiney.
Trust me. colognes and sprays won't fix the smell. Their just a temporary solution.

Pet Co has Crazy Pet
We like the Verry Berry scent, best friend likes baby powder...
dogs don't seem to mind it
never seen one roll and sneeze like they do with some other scents.
Fabric softner sheets work great when your pup comes in a little wet.
If you dog has an outside dog house put cedar in it. It keeps fleas away and smells good on your doggie.!
Dogs are fun
but wet dawg smell, just another minor hurdle

If you're asking how to get the odor off a dog that was maybe sprayed by a skunk??? Gallons of Tomato Juice will do it! Just rub it in and let him sit in the tub for a while; I would recommend putting plastic around before doing this in case he "shakes" his fur...

I agree that a lot of the answers were pretty rude. Have you had the dog checked over by a vet? It could be that he/she has a skin infection, or skin allergies. One of my dogs has skin allergies and she often smells kind of like Frito's. I have to keep her on antihistamine's and bathe her often in medicated shampoo. It could also be that he is an outside dog though, and they often just stink.

I have two dogs and cat in the house and I use "pet cologne". It really gets rid of the odors and you can choose the scent such as "georgio", "tommy" etc. It smells really good. They sell it at Walmart.

You might take your dog to the Vet. To poor thing could have an infection in/on it's skin. I had a inside dog that had an order, when I took him into the Vet's.I was informed that he had a skin infection.
