If you are remodeling a wood burning fireplace would be very expensive, with masonery construction.

A gas fireplace can easily installed, with the flue directed thru a wall or up thru the roof. Your local dealers will have many models and price ranges available.

I do home remodeling and have installed gas fireplaces in many homes.

Yes. My in-laws have one between the den and formal living room. It's nice and it adds the fireplace atmosphere to both rooms. And you can't see through it, so that's not a problem.

the only thing issue will be that you will have a fireplace front and mantel in both rooms. So your fireplace structure might be a bit larger than a single sided fireplace.

I don't see why not, as long as there is plenty of room for the chimney between the walls. Honestly though, wouldn't that be a bit weird? People could just peak through the fireplace and see into your bedroom... hmm

You keep only female midgets in my experience. Throw the guys back, unless you're into that. Insurance isn't an issue. Although they may act like property, they're actually people. Bummer I know, but there it is.

I've seen many of them. Both sides built differently to match the decor of the room.

Yes. There are homes that have that sort of thing done in construction. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to do it post construction... depends on your home.
