I wash him once a week, and have used several things to try and get the odor off of him, but nothing has worked. Any ideas?

What kind of dog is it? Some dogs will naturaly have a stronger smell from the oils in there skin. It is difficult with an outdoor dog though. Most people make the mistake of over bathing a pet. The more you wash them, the more you wash away the natural oils and the more they produce... and you see a cycle forming. Certainly dont wash the dog any more than once a week, and really I would go with every other week. Your going to have to settle more than likely. I dont think you will fully eliminate odor on an outdoor pet. It could be a food problem also. If he has a allergy to his food it can cause skin conditions and strong odor.

you never mentioned what kind of dog you have. if its a hound breed that is normal. i just adopted a basset hound and thought she really had a smell. i did research and found out any dog in the Hound family has a strong scent. They have extra oils their skin excretes. No amount of bathing, perfumes will help. They dont stink just have an odor. like my Vet told me if they really smell bad there is something wrong. Like you said your dog is outside dog. if you bring him in at all of course he is going to smell because you arent use to it. When you really get adjusted to a dogs smell you know the difference between smell and stink. Good luck. I hope everything is ok.

Most outside dogs do smell from rolling in dirt...ETC.
Now if your bring him inside while your home or what ever you need to get A good K9 shampoo to bath him in & a K9 rinse/conditioner. READ LABALS ON BOTTLES for set times.
Get you a squrit bottle. Fill w/half water & half white vinagar.
Bath him-rinse well
apply conditioner-rinse well
after both of these-spay him w/vinagar water-let dry natually.
This well help w/odors

I use doggy "fabreeze". It's like "Fabreeze" but specifically for dogs. Look in the pet aisle near the shampoo. You just spray it on.

There's another thing called a "waterless bath" You spray it on and pat the dog dry. That workds well too.

My dog has allergies and that makes her smell nasty. I bath her often, but I also give her a Benadryl once a day. Do you notice a lot of scratching or sores spots?

If you bathe your dog then it could be a skin issue. Yeast infection on the skin, mange. contact your vet for an appointment so you can know for sure

use a gentle shampoo and make a baking soda and water rinse, make sure he is dry. don't let him out til he is. works for skunk spray too. Also you might try asking a dog groomer
