I think you're way over reacting. He is one. He is too young to associate things as being for "female" vs. "male" and personally I don't think it is fair to enforce that concept. Why? Why are some things, like dolls, only for girls and trucks only for boys? Does that make sense? I don't think so.
My youngest is 3 and he LOVES Dora. He has the Dora Doll House, and a Dora doll. He also watches Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake. But don't be fooled. He is all boy. He loves cars and trucks and is quite the little football star.
I'm amazed that you think Dora is "girl stuff". Why? It is simply an educational cartoon where the main character happens to be female. So when you watch the news or any tv show you only watch ones where the host or main character is a girl...right?

First off do not put any pressure on him to fill the male role. This will only confuse him. Dora and Barney are for all children! Just because a girl is the star of the show doesn't mean anything. And kids love dancing! Quit worrying and leave him alone!

Boys like dancing just like girls do! My 5-year old boy watches Dora (but not Barney. That's just plain weird). He also used to have a baby doll and likes to do pretend cooking. This does not mean he is gay, for heaven's sake!
I know a family of 5 boys who all played with Barbie dolls when they were little and had a pram and baby doll. They're grown up now and not one of them is gay. Coz you can't condition someone to be gay through toys and television.
And even if it turned out he was gay when he grows up, I should hope you'd still love him and support him like a parent should!

Don't worry about it. My 2 and 1/2 year old loves Dora and he even walks around in his sister's shoes and stuff. My friend's son also did the same thing. He's 9 now, and a typical boy.

Please-your 1year old is just beginning to respond to music and move to it-do not stop his joy of discovery by your more than just ridiculous assumption that a 1 year old would have any already gay characteristics. You need to get some parenting books on the developmental stages especially social and play so you'll know whats going on with your child and not let your angst-fear of homosexuality start correcting your 1 year old and hindering his normal development-already destroying his self esteem. Barney is OK for little girls and boys-teaches right and wrong-a bit over a 1 yr old under standing anyway. I should also tell you that allowing a child this young to watch a lot of TV is being blamed on ADHD-why so many kids today have it---Talk with your Pediatrician-he can give you info and refer you to books to read that explains whats is normal development and then you can ease your fear. So Relax, find activities other than TV so much and enjoy the xpression, dancing of your 1y old. I would not be worried.

Dora the Explorer isn't really directed at girls. I know a lot of little boys who watch Dora. At this age there is no reason for you to worry about what he is watching, if it is programming for children and it doesn't scare him. If you don't want him to watch Dora, try Diego (it's Dora's cousin) or Blues Clues. Even if your son turns out to be homosexual as an adult, it wouldn't be because he enjoyed girl television shows as a kid. He is learning about his world and it's important for him to have the freedom to enjoy himself (dancing is great for him!) My daughter is 2 and loves to play with cars, but I'm not worried about her at all. Stop stressing and enjoy him, he's at a super cute age!

I have a nephew that loves Dora the Explorer. Your son is a baby. I don't think he is gay beacuse he watches Barney and such. He proabably likes the music and the songs. I don't think a one year old knows what gay is. Have him watch Go Diego Go if you are worried about Dora. My other nephew loves that one!

Oh for crying out loud!!!! Really!!! Your son is 1!! Side to side is about the only way he can dance. People are born gay. What they watch has nothing to do with it. I even suggest giving little boys dolls because it teaches them to be nurturing and to not hide behind a macho mask all the time. Something that every real man needs to learn. What if he is gay? Will you hate him, disown him, ban your baby boy from the love of his mother? Grow up or give your son to someone who is!

ummmm hes a year old......RELAX......he likes Dora dn Barney because they are TV shows aimed at that age group. The shows are mentally stimulating not sexually stimulating. Especially since he is WAY to young to be sexually stimulated. and anyway, maybe he's watching Dora and the girls on Barney because he thinks they are cute (which is still stupid since he is too young to know the difference between a boy and a girl. H*ll he probably hasn't even really "discovered" his own winkie yet.
I believe you really need to relax, you sound like this bothers you alot and your child can pick up on things like you being nervous and upset. Let the child watch the shows, it has nothing to do with his sexual orientation.
