When you were growing up, what was your parent's chosen spanking implement?

And did they hang it up for all to see? for example, in some families they would hang those novelty paddles (that say things like "for the cute little deer with bear behind" on the dining room wall.)

For me it was the wooden spoon, and my mom displayed it prominently in the family room.

My parents didn't display their paddle, but I am not objected to it. It lets our little ones not forget that When they disobey and sin that the rod is not far behind them. I use the term rod, because that is the termanology in the Bible. I feel blessed that my parents spanked me!! I wouldn't of had it any other way. Course they did it the right way, unlike most Americans that try this form of disapline.

Hopefully, you DON'T have one of your own.My parents had a leather strap. It left welts on the body and psyche. No way to grow up. I "spared the rod" and used a firm grip on the way to the corner chair that faced out into the room. That way they could see the fun they were missing. As they got older, favorites were removed and specials were not given. They had the right to disagree as long as it was with respect. They sometimes won their arguments. Always keep an open mind and never assume they did or didn't do wrong. Investigate fully. Let them have some input into family decisions and allow them to make choices even if they make a mistake and then discuss it. Love them for who they are and you will have done the best you could.

I never had a spanking in my life but when I was about 14 my Mom beat me senseless with a hairbrush once. I deserved it!
My husband's Dad was an auto mechanic, he had 8 children and he beat them almost daily with a car's heater hose.
My husband and all of his siblings have NEVER hit their children.
I hit my three children with a plastic spoon, it was basically the same as a long handle wooden spoon.
The worst part (so my kids tell me now) was that they had to walk to the kitchen and get the spoon out of the drawer so I could spank them with it.
If I had it to do over I would never have spanked them and I do not spank the two Grandchildren that I am helping my daughter raise now.
Hitting children causes them to think it is ok to hit others.
Why would any parent want ot cause their own child physical harm?

a belt, the hand, anything close at hand. I did not come out to be an abuser for this as many seem to think these days. The spanking actually did me good and I am certainly a well disciplined person for it.

I remember a thin tree branch would always sit on the wall unit and my parents would threaten to smack us with it. Just the mention of it would make us behave. We got smacked with it a couple of times -stung like hell. I also remember my mother beat the hell out of me once with a vacuum cleaner pipe when I was 15 for calling her a ***** now that was extreem had bruises all over my thighs. I've got my own kids now and I'm quite soft on them on occasion they get a wooden spoon on the bottom,not hard though.

My sisters and I were spanked by hand but the worse and more frequent punishment was kneeling for hours on whatever surface we were on when mom or dad decided to punish us. 2 hours kneeling on gravel is inhumane if you ask me. But it made my parents feel superior and "in control" so they kept it up for years.

Mine was a wooden spoon too - ouch! Just knowing it was in the kitchen drawer was enough to keep me quiet.
