My son has chickenpox, and hes 3. I know that taking him to the doctor is silly, 1 because I know he has chicken pox, the doctor will tell me the same thing, and 2 I dont want to make the other kids sick. What is the best way to make him more comfortable?

Calamine lotion and put gauze on his hands so he doesn't scratch or he will get scars. You really should take him to the doctor anyway, because some kids develop secondary infections like ear infections, etc. They have Quaratine rooms so the other kids won't catch it...

You should let the other kids get sick now, so that they don't get sick when they are older. My friend got the chickenpox when she was 23 and she is scarred for life now, and she was sick for almost a month. You only get the chickenpox once in your life, and when you're a kid it's so much easier to recover from. Put them in the same bed tonight - sick kids for one week, then never again, because they will have built up the antiboties for the illness in their blood.

Put them together when they have measles or mumps, but not colds or fevers. They will catch those illnesses only once in their lifetimes.

Warm oatmeal baths (Aveeno). I've had some parents that like the Aveeno cream for itching inbetween the baths.
Oral diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is an antihistamine that can make him feel less itchy, especially at night. As a side effect it can cause sedation, and that's a good thing when he feels itchy at night! Here's a link to help you dose by the pound as the box is kind of hard to understand: http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T088800.asp
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and Ibuprofen (Motrin/Advil) can help reduce fevers, aches, and discomfort.
I hope your little one finds some comfort in these!

He's kinda young to be diagnosing him yourself. And maybe a doctor visit is not worth it to you, but it's your son's health you should be concerned with. Not your inconvience. Have you checked his temp. Chicken pox can be simple or not. Could be calamine lotion he needs or more than that. I've heard that you shouldn't give aspirin for fever when children have chicken pox. It can be dangerous, from what I understand. At least call your doctor for advice instead of trusting a bunch of strangers.

Give him frequent baths. Put 1/4 cup of baking soda in the water. It's very soothing. Also, give him Motrin every 4 hours.

One way is to keep him away from chocolate, peanuts or peanut butter, this will help with the healing process. You can give him crushed up Lysine tablets in his yogurt or cereal. This is an amino acid that helps the healing . you may also dab the tablet in water and put on his pocks to help dry them up. This also works for cold sores. Check the bottle for dosage but it usually comes in 500 mg. I gave my 2 year old 2 tabs a day and crushed on his butter with his toast. He never tasted it. He healed 2x faster than my other two kids who had it 2 weeks prior. Try it .It will make him feel better.

callamine lotion, warm baths help(oatmeal works the best), and a massage before going to bed. (not scratching) but if you go to the doctors, or just stop by I'm sure theres pamflets(sp) that you can take to get information on all that stuff.
