My poodle use to do that. The vet told us that this was an asthma attack. If she got excited it got worse. See a vet about this and he will give you advice. We use to have to rub her throat until it subsided but they may be treating differently now.

I'm thinking it's kennel cough. I've read that kennel cough is just like a cold in a human being. I've also heard from a vet technician that it is contagious to other pets. Kennel cough (just like a cold) should go away in a few days, but if it worsens, it could lead to pneumonia :( If the cough is persistent, and you can definitely see that your dog is uncomfortable, take him to a vet - maybe a different vet. I hope he feels better soon.

Make sure you don't walk your poodle in a collar. Small dogs under 15lbs need to be walked in a head halty or a harnes. Their treachea is so fragile that simple tugging or pulling on it can cause damange, causing it to swell and restrict the airway.

I my many years working as a vet tech, I've seen a few patients who we first thought they had a respritory infection but after blood work we were baffeled, it wasn't until I saw a segment on a vet show that I put two and two together and suggested it to my clients and their dogs got better.

sounds like kennel cough. Antibiotics will not help it is not an infection, usually it just needs to run its course. Usually medication to supress the cough helps until it goes away.

they have lose hair and in case you seem closer, their tongue looks like a hair brush. They clean themselves by ability of licking their fur and that fur does not consistently get digested. So as a replace of changing right into a poop, they cough it up and puke hair balls.

maybe your dog needs to cough something up (like a hair ball).

Try going to different veterinarians and see what they say. Some have more experience with different things and know more than others.

I think the dog has a hairball. Change food? or go to the pet store.
