The victors at the Alamo were the Mexican Army and they went in sounding the bugle call for "No quarter asked or given." Every combatant was killed, even if they were trying to surrender. The only chivalry shown was the release, unharmed, of a group of women and children who had taken shelter in the Mission Chapel. As to why we lost it, Chivalry, like Honor, and the Rules of War, only work when both sides abide by them. To try and fight fair against an enemy who doesn't is suicide.

The victors at the Alamo were the Mexican Army and they went in sounding the bugle call for "No quarter asked or given." However records decree that not every defender of the Alamo was killed in the initial conflict! It recorded that a few were captured alive i.e. too weak to offer further resistance or found to be alive e.g. unconscious when the burial parties mustered to collect and bury the dead. 1 of which was Davy Crockett, who after interrogation refused to surrender and was taken out and shot!
Chivalry can never be defined! Its just a word! More often than not rendered at the defense of maidens or those too weak to defend themselves and thus accorded to those who interceded to protect them!

Honor, Duty, Country still exist. Problem is that no one is interested in hearing about all the good things those in uniform do. Good news doesn't sell. Bad news, even if incorrectly reported, is good for business.

In real life they cut off all of the survivers heads and raped the women. Don't believe everything you see, it's just a movie.
