I have a three month old puppy and I'm afraid she my be at a loss for hearing. I also have her sister and Summer (the one who can't hear) tends to just follow Jade when called. When I take Summer away from jade she stil doesn't turn at her name or clapping...on a rare occasion she will turn but for the most part no...is there anything i can do to find out for sure so i can stop calling her if i know she can't hear me?

There are tests that can be done by a vet. If you would like to try a few preliminary tests try waiting until she is focused on something else and squeak a toy, whistle, and clap your hands (avoid clapping directly behind your dogs head, the wisp of wind could be enough to get your pups attention). If none of these gets her attention, you could also try a dog whistle, some dogs that are partially deaf will be able to hear the different pitch. You didnt say what breed or color these pups are (many times color patterns within certain breeds, almost always produce dogs that are deaf). If in fact they are deaf a reward based training class should help, most teach hand signals in addition to verbal commands (I dont know about other programs but I do know ours can be tailored for a deaf dog). Good luck with them both

Drop a pan on the floor in the other room from where she is. If she turns toward the sound then she can hear. Don't do it near her as she could turn towards the vibration.

Stand behind him and clap your hands hard. If he doesn't turn toward the noise take him to the vet.

Take her to the vet. They can perform a hearing test called BAER (brain auditory evoked response) to be sure.

f try giving her a chew or treat, w/o the other dog around. when she's into it get behind her about 5-6 feet. if you know she cant see you clap really loud or blow whistle. if no response consult vet.

My White English/American Bulldog puppy is deaf. We have taught her sign language. We could tell she was deaf because her ears wouldn't "perk up" to noises. You can take her to the vet to confirm this as well.

Ask your vet about the BAER (brainstem auditory evoked response) test. It can tell for sure if your dog is dear in one or both ears.

It sounds to me like she really is deaf. Take her to the vet. That's the only way to know for certain.
