when i was younger around 10 my parents told me to cross my legs because it is polite so of course i listened to them. after a while i became very self-concious of my body, even though i am not fat at all. i dont know what it is. but i cross my legs every time i sit because it makes me feel better about myself. i now have vein problems not serious yet but i am afraid of them getting serious, the vein problem is because i cross my legs. i tried not crossing my legs and i felt very weird. what should i do with my vein probelm and not being able to uncross my legs?

I don't know about vein problems but everyone should not be crossing their legs due to problems it can cause with nerves in the legs. I lost weight and started crossing my legs and lost all function in my lower left leg from the knee down - couldn't even move my big toe. I had crushed my nerve bundle where it branches at the knee (where we cross our legs). Thru many doc's, MRI's, x-rays and oooo so many tests we found this out and they really didn't give me much hope of gaining full function back and put me in a brace for my dropped foot. Thru sheer determination I had that brace off within 4 months and was back to walking normal within 8 months. Once you do this to your nerves your nerves have to regenerate on their own if they do.
My specialist said that the worst thing women can do is cross their legs. So just a warning to all of you who take the time to read this.

Vein problems are actually caused by long periods spent on your feet, trauma to the leg, pregnancy, (weight gain ... though you don't seem to have this issue), or heredity. Crossing one's legs IS polite, but it isn't a cause of your problems, in most likelihood.

I would recommend that you go see a vein surgeon - if they're the small purple "spider" veins these can be removed with laser treatment, or minor injections. If its a larger (varicose) vein, it may need to be surgically removed, but only an expert in the field can make a call on that and give you your treatment options.

As for crossing or not crossing, try crossin at the ankles - it's still lady-like, but isn't as severe as the at-the-knee crossing.

If you continue to cross your legs you will get Varicose Veins which are veins that go lumpy and stick out of your legs badly the only way to be rid of them is surgery and compression stockings. Why don't you try crossing your ankles to get you used to the idea of not crossing your legs. It has become a habit and habits are hard to break try uncrossing for 5minutes and then work up to ten etc. It is unfortunate that your parents said that to you, there is enough body issues around already.

If you want to stop crossing your legs badly enough you can. You did not say how old you are, or what the vein problem is. If it is varicose veins, they can be caused by constipation. If that's the case, just try eating more fruit. Stopping the problem now is worth the effort.

Any self respecting lady should always ALWAYS cross her legs. Otherwise it makes you look like a whore, (and I get the impresson that you don't want to send that message) I doubt the veins on your legs are caused by the crossing of ones limbs. If anything try wearing panty hose or nelons, then you won't be able to see them any more.
