Because the hot dog bun people want you to buy two packs of hot dog buns instead of one. They make more money. Everything is about money.

I've read this asked on here before and it stumps me. I live in Western Canada - wieners come in packs of 12 (or more) and so do hot dog buns. Where does the aforementioned number discrepancy occur?

hey hun....i think it's cause of the little kids! lol...think about it...you fix a whole pack of hot dogs and by the time the kids have run off with their hot dog (minus the bun they wouldnt dream of eatin') then you usually have just the right ammount for every one else!....oook so that might not be true but it's comein' from a mommys perspective lol....hope you get some good answers...love daisy

Pure genius in marketing
One now needs to go out and buy a second pack of buns to finish out the hotdogs, and of course that would leave you with left over buns from the second pack, and one would need to go out and buy more hotdogs, etc, etc, etc
