Well it depends.... what your original crime was, what jurisdiction you committed you crime in, what you did to violate probation, etc. However some general guidelines: In most jurisdictions here in the US when you are on "probation" it means you are on it in lieu of going to jail. If it is "revoked" you can be jailed for up to the original term of probation. When probation is "revoked" it means your PO (who in fact works for, and is part of the court system- not the police or prosecutor's office) reports to the court that you violated your terms of release. The matter goes before the judge, and he/she decides your fate. This takes time, and you can reside in jail until the matter is decided- again, depending on the circumstances. If you provide more info you will get a better answer...

If probation is revoked it is because the person on probation has run afoul of the law again and is now going to do jail time.

You don't revoke your probation, your probation officer does that. When it happens, it means you no longer have probation and have to serve your jail time.

if they revoke your probation you are put in jail pending a hearing with the judge. The judge will decide if you will spend the rest of your time in prison or jail or if they will let you back out on probatoin.

You can end up spending the rest of your probation period in prison
