To get to work I have to walk through a hallway which isnt a designated smoking area but I have to work for atleast one minute through thick smoke from all the smokers there? They take smoke breaks in an undesignated area that I HAVE to walk through to get to work. It wouldnt bother me, I dont care what people do unless it affects me and it does. It gives me an asthma attack almost daily unless I'm having a good day? I asked if they could smoke elsewhere and they said ITS A FREE COUNTRY??

If it isn't a designated smoke area they should not be smoking there. You can call the city if there's a by law and they will post signs. They must be the rudest people and should go outside.

It is a free country, you can do most anything as long as you don't hurt OTHERS. Second hand smoke does cause harm, you are unfortunately complaining to the wrong people. Complain to your supervisor and the Human Resources department.

A lot of smokers are rude and feel like nonsmokers should tolerate them or move on. They don't realize how their habit affects others, and they're addicted, so they don't CARE!
Watch them flick their butts out the car window or dropping them on the sidewalks or the beaches. The rest of us get to live with their waste. But we love it, right? You can smell them when they come in...they're the ashtrays walking by. They all think they're keeping a secret. They're not only rude, they're sad.

Yes I would say it is rather rude. Talk to management about it and if they do nothing , then call the county health dept. Demand another entrance or tell them you will be speaking with a lawyer. You should have to get lung cancer simply because someone is to lazy to go outside.

Totally RUDE....I can't believe they responded like that to when you asked them to stop. A lot of states are getting stricter laws. I would talk to someone higher up about this issue besides second hand smoke is just as bad as lighting up yourself so say you don't want lung cancer!

Its not just rude, but also a violation. You should sue them.
And the 'Free country crap', they should shovel it up their.....bec they haven't got a clue what a free nation means (they haven't heard of countries such as Afganistan, Somalia, Iran, Pakistan etc to appreciate what is a free country).

Borrow a local gardener's leaf blower, and off you go - it's a free country.
Or write this website down and give them all a copy of it

Report them to management. If they do nothing, report the problem to the city health department. You should not have to suffer second hand smoke.

unfortunately they are correct and unless it says that they CAN NOT smoke there, they have just as much right to be there as you do.. I don't smoke, but I think it is wrong for us to tell them that their free rights are not right...
