Keep an open mind. God is pursuing you though - He loves you and wants a relationship with you. The Bible is not a rule book but a manual to help with life. Blessings.

The "rules" you're so worried about really do make life easier (take it from some one who broke too many). Then again, what's wrong with "Thou shall not steal?"

That said, your relationship with God is between you and God, it's your Mom's job to see that you get the learning.

Tell your mom that you respect her efforts in a world that hates people of faith. You can join the truly intolerant atheists. or you can pray for understanding and an open mind before you read the Bible. CAUTION: Not all organized religions are honestly interested in your relationship with God. Pray as Jesus teaches to pray in scripture NOT as some churches teach you should pray (in tongues or in front of everyone...)

God has a lot of love for you and a lot of patience. Your Mom may feel she's running out of time. Ask her. If she's putting a lot of pressure on you, there may be some specific reasons. The angels of young children always see the face of God (according to the big book of rules).

I think it was G.K. Chesterton who said that (in short) Christianity has been evaluated as too difficult and left untried. Don't get hung up on the laws. Christianity is about faith, not about following the rules. Have faith that God knows what's best for you (maybe you are ready to be a Christian). Your mom just wants whats best for you. Maybe you should try Christianity and tell her to be patient.

Be yourself. Remember that no fixed list of rules applies to every situation. I applaud you for resisting the spoon-fed morality of religion.

Think for yourself and determine what is really important to you in life. That will guide your morality, what you consider right and wrong. The Christians have a saying, "You will know them by their fruits". That applies for non-Christians, too. As long as you are a person of good character, people will respect you, including your mom.

Remind your Mom that Jesus never forced his rules of religion on anyone. He wants people to come to him by their own will. Have you seen "The Passion of The Christ"? It can show you what he went through for you, and then you can make your own decision. That's the way Jesus wants it.

Don't become a Christian because your mom wants you to. Continue to seek.
