My son spent a month with my in-laws this summer and his clothes reeked of smoke when he got back! I bought some Oxi-clean and added it to my regular laundry detergent - It took 2 washings, but it did take out the smell! God bless!

If the item is washable, put one cup ammonia and one cup white vinager in the washer with the item on as low a water level as possible and run the delicate cycle on cold (no additional soap). When the clothes are through, smell them BEFORE putting them in the dryer. If all the smell of cigarettes is gone (you will smell the vinager/ammonia a little), put them in the dryer or hang them in a wind. The vinager smell will disappear with the drying process. If the cigarette smell is still there, a second run in the washer with the vinager/ammonia and you're good to go.

Add a cup of white vinegar to the wash. Don't pour it directly on the clothes, but put it in the water then add the clothes. If you put a saucer of vinegar in a room where someone smokes it's suppost to take the smell out of the room too.

When I worked in places with cigarette smoke I used to take my clothes that had picked up the odor and leave them outside overnight to air out. It was a good start before trying any cleaning techniques.

I think there's a special Fabreeze that works well on cigarette smoke. Someone gave me living room furniture once that had that lovely smoke smell. The Fabreeze took care of it. No, I don't work for Fabreeze.

Wow, that's strong! Usually a single washing is all that's needed. I guess maybe you could try one of the new scented fabric softeners.

The product Fabreeze worked for my sister, who had been given some clothes that reeked with cigarette smoke. She sprayed them heavily the oder is gone. Tide now has Fabreeze in it, I have not tried it.

use fabric softener, come back with fabric refresher, are you could wash them in LYSOL concentrate, this comes in a brown bottle. you can get it at all most any store. this is what i use and because the clothes are used this can really help.

Wash them and hang them out on the line to dry on a real windy day.
