Have you ever wondered? Why is it it is the general practice of guys to have short hair and women long hair? And this is the practice the world over. In spite of the fact the world has become more liberal today, the trend has not reversed much. In fact, long haired men are still strongly reproved in many quaters of society.

There was a hipee culture back in the 60s and 70s, where man started to sprout long hair. Hence, back in those days, professional soccer players and male film stars all started to keep long hair. However, somehow, the trend didn't caught on and is not wide spread. The same can also be said of women who didn'tstart to keep short hair.

The irony is that, it is not too long ago when man kept long hair. All the people who lived during the Victorian era had long hair.

When did the trend for men to keep short hair started and why wouldn't women keep short hair like Zidane or Ronaldo?

I think it has always been about fashion. Greeks and Romans had short hair as men through the ages did. Just a choice of what was the fashion of the time.

Interesting point there. I guess some things are so strongly etched into cultures, and stereotypes are associated with men and women, that we naturally just stick to them. There are lots of differences between men and women now, and in the past, but some things just dont change. I hope you find a good answer to your question.

All of my friends and I have long hair, but we are not scenesters, we just like the style.
