If the dog be well remembered, if sometimes she leaps through your dreams actual as in life, eyes kindling, questing, asking, laughing, begging, it matters not at all where that dog sleeps at long and at last. On a hill where the wind is unrebuked and the trees are roaring, or beside a stream she knew in puppyhood, or somewhere in the flatness of a pasture land, where most exhilarating cattle graze. It is all one to the dog, and all one to you, and nothing is gained, and nothing lost -- if memory lives. But there is one best place to bury a dog. One place that is best of all.
If you bury her in this spot, the secret of which you must already have, she will come to you when you call -- come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down the well-remembered path, and to your side again. And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel they should not growl at her, nor resent her coming, for she is yours and she belongs there.
People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by her footfall, who hear no whimper pitched too fine for mere audition, people who may never really have had a dog. Smile at them then, for you shall know something that is hidden from them, and which is well worth the knowing.
The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of her master.

I feel so bad for you. I have my dog Katie buried in my yard and we are moving. I cried and cried to my parents that I can't leave her ,and they said they are going to get her brung with us and buried where we move. You shouldn't be crying, you should be happy. Apparently, her heart wasn't strong enough to carry on, but now there is no more pain, no suffering, she dosen't have to feel the ticks or anything. I know how it feels and you need some cheering up. My heart aches for everyone who is sad right now and I know how you can cope with this. Think about buying another dog, new adventures, a new peice to your life, heart, and mind. A new companion that will stay by you when you miss Lady the most. A dog to sit with you on the couch and help you get through. Think about that. Heres a virtual rose @>---------
Feel better, time and a new companion mends a broken heart.

I just lost my dog a week ago, he was the second dog I have had (first one is still with me, thank goodness), and I am sad with memories and only had him for 7 weeks. I am so sorry for your loss, because I know how sad I feel with only 7 weeks of memories... 16 years is not comparable and I can't imagine how you must feel right now. But I hope you find comfort in knowing that your memories will always bring you bright sunny days in your mind even if it's raining.

I know it's hard to believe, but each day gets better. Each day you will laugh, cry tears of joy, and tears of sadness, all for the memories you have of her. As time passes you will realize that celebrating the joy she brought you will come to the forefront and the memory of her will bring you comfort every day.

Hi
So sorry for your loss. I understand , I cried too when I had to have my dog ( Lady , too) put down. I gave her the best life I could and that helped me to grieve. You have to take the time to go through that grief . I got another dog a year after... she is now 13 yrs old ( Moufette) I love her but she didn,t replace lady. She,s special all by herself. Don,t know what I,ll do when she goes, but after the sorrow with Lady I know that I will laugh again and so will you , Good luck, Simone

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a pet, especially one you've had since childhood.
This is one of my favorite poems about grieving the loss of a pet:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

This is part of growing up. Loosing something that you loved so much! I say get another, a puppy. You will miss yer old friend but, there are so many dogs to love. Pets give unconditional love. They don't care if yer having a bad hair day or, when you do dumb things. They will still love you!

It is normal to be crying at this point in your life. You knew her for 16 years, it's OK to cry. I suggest that when you feel better, months down the line that you adopt a new puppy. It made me feel better, and I see so much of my old dog in my new puppy. My dog was named Lady too! I miss her too, it has been about a year for me. So you'll heal eventually.

I am so sorry you lost her.
Sounds like she lived a good long life and it was time for her to go.
I know it's hard but try to stay busy and think about other things.Take comfort in the fact that she's now in a place where she's happy and not in any pain.
Your heart will heal.I promise.

My heart really goes out to you. Pets really become family members and best friends, even children. Lady lived a long, happy life, and she was lucky to have you. Keep the memories close...they'll make you smile eventually. My husband and I lost both of our puppies in February...they were hit by a train together. They were our "kids". Peace to you...

Lady was more than a dog, she was a friend, and a family member. It is only natural that you would grieve over her. Know that animals are allowed into Heaven if their owners want them. She'll be waiting for you there, so dry those tears, live a full life, and know that you will one day be reunited with her if you so desire.
