Question for all you transgender people that work as your true gender.
I am about to go though transition, and I am now out of work my old boss sacked me
Looking for work has been a bit hard as I am not sure what I want to do anymore (workwise) I am a TQ Chef but am looking for something differant possibly cleaning offices or something like that.
My question is what do other TG/TS do for work and is there any problems I should look out for during transition work wise.
I plan to go back to cooking after i am setteled in my new gender role and I see this as my time to start of fresh and live the way I should have many years ago,

i work as an Oracle Developer for a government contractor
and i transitioned on the job. it wasnt easy but i think its the best course to take since someone might not want to hire someone that is just beginning tansition.

with no work history for them they might not look at you for what kinda worker you are.

I'm not trans, but I was having a hard time finding work as well. If you have any money saved up, you can take a bartending course, which is what I'm doing. The one in my area takes about two weeks and looks for a good job placement for you. And in that way, you'd always have your certificate in dispensing alcohol and the knowledge on how to make drinks. And you say you'd want to cook for a career. If you have both chef and bartending experience, you may get hired later on a lot easier by a high class resturaunt. You may even be able to open your own bar and grill. Good luck, luv.

Depending on what state you live in, you might want to contact LAMBDA Legal Aid. Many states have a glbt clause written into their "right to work" attachment to their state's constitution. I know my state passed just such an attachment to our state's constitution which was put into effect as of January 1st of this year.
These attachments usually state that a person cannot be fired solely on the basis of Age, Gender, Race, Religion AND sexual orientation (*or "percieved orientation) as well as gender identity.

Contact LAMBDA legal and find out if you have a case to sue your former employer for unjust termination.

Now, I know a few TG/TS's and their employment varies. One M2F works in the court system as a court reporter. Another works for a GLBT organization as an "Awareness Spokesperson" and another works as a lawyer.
There used to be a M2F who was a bartender at one of our local lesbian bars for several years. I think she ended up going to school as a realestate agent...as I recall.
