What doe supporting local business have to do with your neighbors dog? When you support local business, the money stays in your community. Thus it has a trickle down effect. Your local businessman will spend at another local business and so on so the money helps to support the people in your town. Big Boxes or chains wire transfer their money out to the state their home offices are in the same day it hits the bank. Hence they are mining the economy in your community. Not a economically healthy situation for your town.

Hmmm.. Why support a local business because Wal-Mart is the devil and there trying to take over the world. So the real question is do you want to support a local business or companys like Wal-Mart
To me paying more is the lesser of the two evils.

I don't know what you mean by "it's not cool". Do you mean the business itsself is not cool, or it is not cool to support your local economy? I am a little lost on your point there.

Re: "cool". Who decides what is "cool". A snobbish little group sitting around sipping their Starbucks?

Support your local family run businesses whenever possible - that is what America was built on.
