Don't give up, and don't turn your back on him. As long as you're watching, he'll probably be fine. Just make sure you keep the grippy things on the bottom of the tub, or get a bath mat. That way he'll have less of a chance to slip and fall. Good luck!

Don't give him a bath. Let him take a shower with you or your husband or just run the water and quickly wash him. Tell him that if he wants to take a bath and play in the water, he will have to sit. Otherwise he gets showers. He may like showers better but he won't have manipulated you. Yes, children are manipulative. It is a survival skill. Whatever you choose to do to change the behavior, just make sure you keep following through because there isn't much worse than your kids not believing what you say.

When it comes to issues of safety, you must be firm and consistent.
You can try having him stick no-slip decals on the bottom of the tub (Wal-mart has them, they are rubber ducks or frogs). That will keep him seated long enough for you to wash him.
Sometimes kids are afraid at this age of going down the drain. We had to show my son that people can NOT go down the drain (Almost got my foot stuck in the drain demonstrating that!)
My kids like to push the limits sometimes, BUT they know that if I say "This is for SAFETY", that I am NOT going to give in.
My daughter just tried this with us. We put a big towel in the bottom of the tub, just in case, and as soon as we put her in, washed her quickly. The first time she stood, she got a warning.
The second time... OUT. Period. Scream all you want, but I don't want to end up ER, or the emergency dentist because someone wants to stand in the tub.
She would say "I'll sit." And we told her politely, but firmly. "OK. You can show us that the next time you take a bath. We're done tonight. This isn't safe."
It took only TWO nights of getting out of the tub. The next time she stood, we asked "Are you ready to get out?" She said "Nope!" and sat right down.
Hope some of this is helpful.

Hi! I am the mama of three boys and I have learned along the way to "pick my battles!" We can pull our hair out and have nervous break-downs or roll with it, baby! I still catch myself participating in losing battles, but not as much. This makes for a happier Mommy and little ones! ( safety is safety though and I draw a serious line there... carseat, etc.)I like the last ladies suggestion about the sticky matt in the tub and close supervision. I used to just bathe with them when they were that little. Its easier cause you end up getting wet either way anyway and it makes them feel safer and it's alot easier to wash their hair! Good Luck sweetie!

when my son was that age he did the same thing. I would say " sit down" 2 times and then I would say "sit down or you are getting out!" firmly. and if he didn't i took him out! dont let him think you are simply talking. I would pull the plug, pick him up and dry him off... screaming and all. He soon realized i wasnt joking. Now he CLIMBS OUT of the tub and he knows the first time is a warning and after that water is drained and he is DONE. He is now almost 27 months. he knows I mean business

I assume this is just happening when you put him in to bathe him, correct?
Go and buy a large beach towel and lay it the full length of the bath tub. This will completely cover the bottom of the tub and he he will have traction so there's no slipping.
When you're done bathing him, wring it out and hang it over the shower rod or throw it in the dryer...
Problem solved :)

Get some control for God's sake. You say he likes his bath. If he won't sit don't let him play. Stand him in a couple inches of water, wash him and take him out. Show him that if he sits and plays with his toys he can stay in the bath.

Until he becomes older,(if he doesn't grow out of it) let him stand with your supervision. It my end up being he's a shower person.

Keep at it, insist he sit down. It's for his safety.
Perhaps finding a book at the library?
Good luck!
