I want to start jogging but every time I try I get horrible pains in my shins. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the pain? I can't jog for more than a couple of blocks before it starts to really hurt.

1. Stretch completely for 15-20 minutes first.
2. Walk for 10-15 minutes before jogging.
3. Better shoes.
4. Try certain wraps/warmers that are used to help with shin splints.

Good luck.

You may have shin splints. Some people are naturally prone to this condition. Shin splints are a soreness of the front of the lower leg due to straining of the flexor digitorus longus muscle. Icing the area after a workout helps alleviate the pain. You may want to try running on a softer surface like a track or grass field. Avoid going up and down hills too. That irritates the muscle even more. Rest it a while, ice it several times a day, and try again.

Sounds like shin-splints are starting to develop. I would watch the way you place your foot. Maybe your shoes aren't broken in or are to old to give you the support you need. Stretching more would help. Giving a couple more minutes to warm up the muscles can only help you out in the future. Good Luck.

Make sure that you have good running shoes on. Also, try jogging on a soft surface such as grass or a rubber track, Cement is hard on your bones. Before you jog, make sure you are hydrated very well and do a warm up before you start to jog. Hope this helps.

Don't overwork yourself. When you do it, just jog for maybe half of an hour, then take a break. If you have enough time, do it again for another half-hour after you've fully rejuvinated. Trust me, overworking yourself can lead to worse results and a bad mentality about working out... just make it as fun as you can with the correct discipline, and you'll be fit in the blink of an eye. Good luck!

Make sure you have a good pair of running shoes with good cushioning.
A lot of people buy the wrong shoe.
Also, it could just be that the muscles in your calves haven't developed yet.
Only time will take care of that.
Good luck and keep it up.
On days when it hurts, don't stop, just slow to a walk.
