Has God ever told you to do something that he absoultely knew you didn't want to do? It seems as if God is trying to tell me to continue working where I've been for the last 27 years, and I'm absolutely miserable just thinking about it. Is it possible that I'm not really hearing from God, but rather being mentally tormented by the Devil?

Ask God to send someone to bear witness to that if its true, if no one comes to you with the same advice, leave your job and be happy.

Yes, God has given me direction to do something that was absolutely against what I considered all logical foundation. It was absolutely against my nature. I prayed and received further indication that I had, indeed, been compelled by the Holy Spirit to do what was definitely not something anyone or even my own thoughts could have invented or inspired. I still did not know that I was hearing some divine instruction. I prayed some more. I had a confirming word from a source that had no way of knowing what I was debating. I followed the instruction and it ended up being the turning point of my life. I am not saying that what you are considering is actually the voice of God. Pray, listen, and pray some more. If you have a sincere desire to follow God's will, He will find a way to let you know for certain.

The answer is simple. God will let you know without a doubt. Never take action until you arrive at the, without a doubt, place. If it's the devil, then it is God's duty to let you know if you are being lied to. God will never accuse you if you say, I waited to be sure it was you. Would God ask you to stay in a place where you are unhappy? He wanted Paul in chains. Daniel in a lion's den. Perhaps He is testing where your loyalties are, with His voice or your happiness. Is there benefits to being in a place where you are unhappy? Absolutely, it teaches you to go when the going is tough and patience. Personally, I am encouraged to see someone seriously so concerned about doing what is right. Always remember, trust in the goodness of God.

If you are miserable about the prospect of staying where you are, then are you also miserable about going to work now? My guess is that you are. Your "miserable" attitude is likely effecting your job and those around you.
Do your co-workers know that you are a Christian?
Have you blown your witness to them, or are they all closed to the Gospel?
Do all things as unto the Lord.

Work where you want, but work as though God was your employer.

I think that sometimes God will ask us to go things that at first thought we consider unappealing. Offhand, there are many examples of people being called into certain positions of ministry (such as in Third World countries) that are against their current wishes--but after submitting to the call of God they are blessed and wouldn't change it for anything. I would just recommend spending time in prayer and in God's word seeking His instruction...God Bless..

There are many times when God tests our faith in him by asking us to do something we really detest. When he asked Moses to go to the Pharaoh and tell him to let his people go, moses tried to get out of it. When he told Jonah to go to Nineveh (the one place Jonah hated!) Jonah went the opposite way. When God asks me to do something I hate I try to remember that he corrected Jonah by letting him get swallowed by a whale.
Keep praying about it and you will know. Maybe there is someone there that only you can get through to!!!

need more details.. what makes you think that he is telling you to stay? I would think that if he wanted you to stay he would present a promotion or either you would have no desire to go elsewhere. I would ask everyone that I know to help me pray about it. I will be praying for you to make the right choice.

God Bless

As far as knowing whose voice it is, Jesus says, "My sheep hear my voice, and they know me." What is your answer to that comment? Do you experience sadness but peace when you agree to stay in your job? Or do you feel unsettled and frustrated?

I wonder if God is testing you to see if you are willing to serve His purpose, not yours. That is a hard test for any of us.

You know He loves you and doesn't want you to be unhappy, but He knows the only way to true happiness is complete trust in Him and obedience to Him, whatever He asks. That shows Him we truly believe.....and it shows it to ourselves as well.

If you can tell Him you will stay right where you are if that is what serves His purpose, then you are telling him, "Have thine own way," and that is what He wants to hear. For your sake.

What you need to do is pray and consult the Bible.
Remember, the Bible is the word of God; he would never ask you to do anything contrary to it.

You know, you shouldn't ask god for something you can do yourself. He doesn't decide for you, you have the right to make your own choices. Its your happiness that counts....i suggest, go look for another job that you would like, and then quit your recent job.
