Have you heard that saying that goes: "There are three side to every story"?
Well there is, the fars right side, the far left side and the truth.

Believe not what liberals and conservatives say, but what they do. Activists and party hacks both are born liars. Example: Does the average Pro Choice activist really believe that partial birth abortion is humane? Does the average Right-to-Lifer really believe that woman should go full-term on a pregancy created through rape? Answers-NO to both. They just rally behind each of their points because if they discuss the issues rationally with each other and give even an inch the other side will exploit that weakness and then that side loses ground.
Same with political parties. They have become so rigid in their unwillingness to publicly recognize any positive decision or result by the opposite party out f fear that this recognition may somehow bolster their opponent, that they publicly disagree with everything the other side says or does.
ex. Does Rush Limbaugh ever compliment any liberal? Republican bashing liberal talk show hosts also won't compliment conservatives (even if they secretly believe that a conservative might be right on a particular issue.)-They are too fearful of having it thrown in their faces later
The truth is the current President and the previous President were both unsuccessful in beating Al-Qaeda.
In my opinion you are correct in making a distinction about having "sides" in political issues vs. Military. However, the Commander in Chief and Secretary of Defense are both politicians. They drive the direction of wars. Their opinion and "side" count very much. If they are wrong, people die. It's a stark reality.
My answer, form your own opinions from unnaligned new sources and stay informed. Take talk radio as entertainment, not the unbiased truth.Use it as a barometer to see how extremists on both sides think. Personally take it as far as not joining any political party, but I vote (probably 50-50 rep, dem split). I make my own decions. I know this sounds jaded and almost like I am afraid to pick a side, but I sincerely believe the moment I pick a side and follow, I will be submit to being led blindly.

It is a principle of logic that for every position, the Thesis, the is an opposite position, the Antithesis. If you combine the two you get a Synthesis, which is more likely to appoach truth than either of the poles. In todays political arena things are more complicated since you have way more than just two positions, rather than look for one source to trust, try regarding all presented truths as half-truths, get as many viewpoints as possible, then compare verifiable events with what the various sources said in advance. This will allow you to construct a synthesis of your own. Even if you end up dead wrong, you'll still be the best informed dead wrong person on your block.

Perhaps you should spend less time posting inane questions and more time researching Geo-politics and world history, get 3 or 4 information sources besides cable news and the networks or the NY times. Then you might have enough factual information to discern who is telling the truth and who is trying to regain lost power.

Yup, being an informed citizen of a democracy is hard work. I check Google news for the broad perspective. I'd like to check a center-right opinion site and a center-left opinion site. Opinionjournal.com is center-right, but on the left I can only find America-hating maniacs. Hey that'd be a good question for Yahoo Answers wouldn't it?

I take it you are referring to Slick Willy ( Bill Clinton's interview w/ Wallace ).. So, Clinton lied to his wife ; he lied to his mistresses ; he lied about his mistresses ; he lied under oath- and he lied to the American public about Monica Lewinsky ; but he has such high regards for Chris Wallace -above all else in his life -that he is "really" telling Chris Wallace the truth >As for his baloney re: blaming Bush ... the 9/11 attacks were not conceived during the Bush presidency- terrorists tried to take down the WTC Towers while Clinton was in office -HE DID NOTHING TO KEEP THEM fromPLANNING ANOTHER ATTACK . The thing that bothers me-is when the facts are starring you in the face -there's still that 195th time , that you are going to THINK Clinton has decided to go straight and tell the truth THIS TIME .

The Conservative point of view, which has little representation in politics. President Bush may not have done enough before 9-11, but he has done the right thing since 9-11.
