I was always told by my breeder friends about 4 liters maximum. But that could also depend on the breed.

In reality, it depends, ever dog is different, not a lot different than people in that regard.

We never take that into consideration, our feeling is that if the puppy's from their first litter do not meet our standard, there is no point in breeding them again. If their puppy's do meet our standard, two more breedings would be max, but most of the time one of our females will only have two litters in their lifetime. Pure and simple, if a dog doesn't produce a puppy suitable to be a Champion from two litters, it never will.

I'm not against dogs have puppies, but why would you want to have puppies? With all the homeless animals that are out there that need good homes. That have lived their life in a shelter. We have a no kill shelter. For example, there are two black labs that have been there even before I started volunteering out there. And thats been 5 or 6 years I've been doing that. And there are a few other dogs out there that have been there for about 3 years. Why create more pets, when there are plenty of pets to be adopted?

It depends on the dog. Size can make a difference, age makes a difference, and the health of the dog also. Don't be a puppy mill! I think that in general, 2 litters of puppies is sufficient for any type of dog. How would you feel if after you gave birth somebody sold all of your babies??

I had a german shepherd who had 4 litters between 4-8 puppies over a course of 3 years which was totalling 21 puppies but she didnt have anymore after that since she was too old to be having anymore babies.

It depends on lots of things, breed, health of the dog, ease of pregnancy and labour, age they have the first litter. Apart from breed it is like people, one bad pregnancy could ruin everything, or they could have lots of healthy successful ones. Just watch the health of your dog and listen to the vet.

well that's a good 1 ? it all depends on what type of dogs we r talking about ? but my boxers had 8 1 time then 9 the next so it all really depends on what size the female can handle
so?

My Grandma's dog had 9 litters and then the vet said if she had another, she would die so I would say it depends on the dog or how healthy the dog is.
