If my dog hears a loud noise or some one is yelling to the next room he gets nervous. And he tries to go under someone’s legs. We don't really know why but we just figure he feels safer and that the person he is under will protect him. The worst thing about this big problem is that he is a big dog so he has almost knocked me over in a few occasions where it isn't all that safe to happen.

Like the other folks, I agree he is looking for protection. So what do you do? Do you try to soothe him and are very reassuring? Don't. You are rewarding the behavior you want to stop. Set him up with some help (arrange for some loud noises to happen). Make sure he is wearing a leash, and when the noise happens and he tries to go where he shouldn't, pull up on the leash and tell him no. (I'm not saying be mean, just firm). Give him something else to do (like, "sit" beside you instead). and praise him when he acts UNafraid and sits calmly. Do this exercise several times. Then wait an hour and do it again. Keep at it for several days until he becomes confident enough to behave like you want him to.

I dont see that as he is looking for protection, I see it as the dog doesnt know how to handle the situation. That is something that your dog is doing that needs to be corrected. A dog shouldnt be scared of someone yelling or a loud noise (unless its a siren). especially since he is a big dog. Its usually the little ones that act up like that.

You should think about correcting that problem.

He views you as the pack leader and therefore looks to you for protection when he is scared.

thats probaly her way of feeling safe...When i was little, i would hide under my moms dresses, it made me feel safe when i felt scared. it worked. lol You can probally get her to stop by blocking her from getting inbetween your legs when she attempts. And just keep trying until she stops....oh, and keep your legs closed. lol

He feels secure near you, there is nothing wrong with that. Just show him love and affection.
