I have really thick, dry hair, and I used to get dandruff and I tried EVERYTHING. The T Gel stuff stinks and Head and Shoulders just made it worse. The ONE thing that I've found that seriously works is Neutragina 2 in 1 daily control dandruff shampoo. I even let my step dad use it once (he had serious scalp issues) and that's all he'll use now. It works just after one use and I highly recommend it. I hope this helps. :)

There are a few different types of dandruff.
There is greasy dandruff which is caused by not washing the hair enough. I don't know how old your son is, but sometimes kids tend to say they washed their hair, but what they really mean is they washed it w/ water only. You can smell his hair and see if it smells freshly washed or if it has a sweaty smell to it, if it stinks he is not washing his hair which causes greasy dandruff. This is the most common dandruff in kids. Can be treated by washing the hair more often and more thoroughly.
Dry dandruff is where the scalp is usually dry and flaky, usually small flakes. Paul Mitchell Tea Tree is the best shampoo I've ever seen work for this condition, it is also highly recommended by most dermatologist. You also need to use a conditioner to add moisure to the hair & scalp.
Some people think they have dandruff, but actually just have slight dry scalp which should not be treated w/ a anti-dandruff shampoo. It probably just needs moisture and can use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditions to treat. When you use your conditioner make sure to deeply massage the scalp to give more needed moisture.
Good Luck,
Stylist of 9 yrs.

I just read something this week about getting rid of dandruff.
The old time remedy was to rinse with vinegar and leave on for a few minutes. It helps clean the scalp and neutralize the bacteria.
The shampoos with coal tar in them, usually work.
I've not heard of using mayonnaise for dandruff. Seems to me, that the oil would add to the build up on the scalp. Mayonnaise is used by models to condition their hair.
Sometimes what looks like dandruff, isn't. It's a dry scalp problem. I've seen several shampoos on the market for that.
Check your local drugstore or WalMart. A pharmacist would probably assist you.

Hi, I can recommend a couple of different products depending on your son's age. I got some shampoo for my husband from a company called Arbonne because his head was so dry. It is their Intelligence Shampoo with Tea Tree Oil and his head is no longer dry. If your son is a preschooler I recommend their shampoo in their ABC Baby Line. You can check out these products in their online catalog at http://www.wonderful.myarbonne.com If you sign my guestbook and let me know you were asking about your son I can send you a sample of both products. There is enough in the samples for 2-3 applications. Good luck to you.

Ask your pharmacist. They have certain products behind the pharmacy counter that you don't need a prescription for.
